🚚🔋Driving Change: How OEMs Will Thrive in a Zero-Emission, Autonomous Trucking Era 🚛🤖 James Menzies latest article for Today's Trucking highlights the transformative role of zero-emission and autonomous trucks, that will unlock new revenue opportunities for OEMs, while reshaping the relationships truck makers have with their #fleet customers. The article shares some of the key findings of McKinsey & Company latest research my colleagues Prasad Ganorkar and Tobias Schneiderbauer presented at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show: ➡️Market Growth: The North American truck market is set to grow through 2035, with 90% of OEM profits coming from non-truck sales. ➡️Profit Shifts: Future profits will stem from an expanded ecosystem, including financing, leasing, charging, and data services. ➡️Truck-as-a-Service (TaaS): Over 70% of fleets are interested in TaaS, pushing OEMs to provide integrated solutions. ➡️Infrastructure Investment: $7 billion needed by 2030 for charging infrastructure, increasing to $20 billion by 2035. ➡️Tech Diversification: By 2040, the market will balance with 36% battery-electric, 27% hydrogen, and 37% internal combustion. ➡️Cost Reduction: BEVs need a 30-50% cost reduction to match diesel TCO, with autonomous trucks becoming cost-effective by 2030.
