Stress disrupts memory precision, causing generalized fear responses by enlarging memory-encoding neuron networks. This effect, mediated by the brain’s endocannabinoid system, suggests potential therapeutic targets for conditions like PTSD and anxiety disorders. #Neuroscience #MentalHealth #PTSD #AnxietyDisorders #EndocannabinoidSystem

For people living with depression, getting the right treatment is often trial and error. Depression is a complex biological illness. But the emerging field of precision functional mapping is advancing our understanding of the changes in the brain associated with this illness. Wellcome Leap’s Multi-Channel Psych program aims to develop an integrated model of anhedonic depression that captures both internal biological factors and externally-manifested, quantifiable measures. The team's research results using precision functional mapping are detailed below in Nature. #Neuroscience #MentalHealth #DepressionResearch #Neuroimaging #PrecisionMedicine #WellcomeLeap

May 24th is World Schizophrenia Awareness Day. Did you know that 1/3 of all schizophrenia cases go undiagnosed? Only two out of three individuals living with schizophrenia are diagnosed by a physician, likely due to misdiagnosis of the condition. We need better diagnostic tools that can provide objective measures to accurately identify patients and aid in developing the next generation of treatments. Today, Cumulus Neuroscience honors our valued customer Dr. Snezana Milanovic for her dedication to bringing much needed therapies to market for patients living with this devastating condition. Take a few minutes today to view this interview where Dr. Milanovic discusses the complexities of conducting clinical trials for psychiatric conditions and highlights the potential of EEG-derived digital biomarkers to advance research in neuropsychiatry. #schizophrenia #CNS #EEG #innovation #neuroscience #digitalbiomarkers Watch the interview with Dr. Milanovic: https://lnkd.in/eWSi38NX

🔍 False Memories: Harder to Create Than Previously Believed! 🧠 A fascinating new analysis challenges the long-standing idea that false memories are easy to implant—a concept often debated in the courtroom. Revisiting the iconic 2023 replication of the "Lost in the Mall" study, researchers found that none of the participants formed fully false memories of fabricated childhood events. This revelation has significant implications for legal cases, therapy practices, and our understanding of memory's malleability. As we continue to explore the intricacies of the human brain, this study reminds us of the resilience and complexity of memory. Discussions like these will take center stage at the 3rd European Congress on Neurology and Neuropsychiatry in Amsterdam this February. 📍 Venue: Park Plaza Amsterdam Airport 📅 Dates: February 17-18, 2025 🎯 Theme: Brain and Mental Health: Navigating the Future of Neurology and Psychiatry 💡 CME Accreditation: Through an agreement between the European Board for Accreditation of Continuing Education for Health Professionals (EBAC) and the American Medical Association (AMA), physicians can convert EBAC External CME credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process can be found on the AMA website. Additionally, other healthcare professionals may obtain from the AMA a certificate of participation for activities eligible for conversion of credit to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. 📩 Registration Queries: info@neurologyconf.com 📩 General Queries: secretary@neurologyconf.com Join us to stay at the forefront of neuroscience and psychiatry advancements! #Neuroscience #FalseMemories #MemoryResearch #CognitivePsychology #CMEAccreditation #NeuroCongress2025 #MentalHealthInnovation

I am beyond excited to share our article, "Dopamine genetic risk scores and psychiatric symptoms: Interacting risk factors for impulse control behaviours in de novo Parkinson's disease", published in the Journal of Neuropsychology. In this study, we explore how genetic and psychiatric factors interact towards the development of impulse control disorders in Parkinson's Disease. A HUGE thank you to Marit Ruitenberg for trusting me with the analysis and the writing of this project. I have learned so much from this experience, and am so excited to have contributed to such valuable research in Parkinson's Disease. Recent research has unveiled fascinating insights into how psilocybin, the active compound in magic mushrooms, affects the brain. A study conducted by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine tracked brain changes in healthy adults before, during, and after taking psilocybin. The findings highlight significant disruptions in brain network connectivity, particularly in the default mode network (DMN), which is associated with our sense of self and introspective thinking. Psilocybin caused a threefold increase in changes to brain networks compared to methylphenidate, commonly known as Ritalin. This desynchronization was most pronounced in the DMN, leading to temporary alterations in the perception of time, space, and self. Interestingly, these changes persisted for weeks, suggesting a potential mechanism for psilocybin’s therapeutic effects, such as its reported benefits in treating depression and PTSD. These findings provide a neurobiological explanation for psilocybin’s mind-altering effects and lay the groundwork for developing psilocybin-based therapies. The study underscores the drug’s ability to induce both acute and lasting changes in brain function, which could be harnessed to alleviate mental distress under controlled conditions. This research opens new avenues for understanding and utilizing psychedelics in mental health treatment, offering hope for more effective therapies in the future. #Psilocybin #Neuroscience #MentalHealth #Psychedelics #Research #BrainHealth
