I recently wrote about unpaid internships and then stumbled across another gem of a job posting. This one expects interns to be strategists, content creators, analysts, and full-time community managers—all for the grand salary of exposure. Honestly, at this rate, I’m wondering if they’ll throw in “CEO for a day” just to sweeten the deal. It’s absurd to demand professional-level work without offering compensation. Sharing this out because it’s so rare to find an intern who has effectively communicated their advertising media internship experience via LinkedIn the way this intern did and they deserve their flowers. If I’m hiring for an entry level role within media, and you happen to apply, and you ALSO happen to have relevant internship experience….this is exactly what I’m looking for. Let’s break it down: 📘 There is clear communication of relevant responsibilities using specific soft skills, tools (hard skills) and mediums of media. 📗Mention of campaigns monitoring, tracking performance and communication being utilized in a team setting 📕Mention of dealing with billing issues and media vendors. 📓 In the skills section, they mention relevant hard skills. 📙Clear description of how their work made an impact to the teams goals and responsibilities. Now I understand not every single one of you is going to have this kind of experience, but if you do, this is how you effectively, and clearly communicate said experience to a recruiter via LinkedIn. To my fellow graduates and internship seekers: it is CRUCIAL to communicate your experience in a way that resonates with recruiters. One thing I’ve consistently heard from recruiters, mentors, HR managers, and higher-ups is that any experience can be valuable—as long as you know how to frame it!

One swipe changed my whole life! Read this to know… Saw some new faces here. I thought it was time for a re-intro. Back in 2018, I saw an ad for an agency based in my hometown hiring a Social Media Intern. I was curious about this field. I thought I would experiment, swipe up on the ad, and apply! What did a student in his last semester of graduation course have to lose anyway? I got their reply, they loved it, and I was selected! That’s how I began my first internship: as an intern, then a job as an analyst and then as a Social Media Executive! And that’s how a kid enrolled in M.Sc. got his first internship in a field he had little or no idea about! I loved the work and thought of ditching the idea of pursuing a Master’s and continue doing a job in this field! From that day, I was thrilled to help businesses thrive! For me, success isn’t just about numbers—it’s about uplifting others, building connections, and making an impact. If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be: "Keep going.
