Love innovation. AirSource remains challenging for heat pumps due to its low efficiency (COP), especially when targeting high temperatures. (PS, also Geothermal) Depending on compressor technology, it forces to layout of a two-stage system (chiller + heat pump) where heat of rejection of chiller goes to the heat pump, unless some other compressor technology can do it in single stage, but still, compressor lift or temp lift, will demand high power consumption reducing COP. At the HTHP Symposium in Denmark 2024, AtmosZero presented air as a heat source with an efficiency COP of 1.8. Better than Boiler 80% eff (COP 0.8) or Electrical Boiler 95% (COP 0.95). Given the current Spark Gap ratios in North America, it's crucial to find locations with a Spark Gap <1.8 to achieve good CO2 abatement and ROI, or Secure significant CAPEX funding through grants and incentives. To improve the Eff (COP), seek higher heat sources. AtmosZero presented a COP of 1.88 with waste heat at 15°C (59°F). COP of 2.42 waste heat at 45°C (113°F). COP of 4.23 high-temperature waste heat at 90°C (194°F) (probably now single stage set up). This is not much different from what has been done in other heat pump applications but still Love it.
