While soft regulation may offer benefits for the private sector, the recent controversy surrounding the AI-driven profiling system at Ben Gurion Airport highlights that this approach is insufficient for the public sector. We argue that Israel should undertake formal legislation, including a list of prohibited AI practices, to ensure the safe and controlled use of AI by public authorities.
