Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) Berlin-Brandenburg Branch e.V.’s Post

Royal Aeronautical Society attends first IDLw “Berliner Plattform” of 2025. As one of a number of Aerospace and Defence related meetings and events attended by members of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) Berlin-Brandenburg Branch e.V., including Branch President Martin Robert Maltby, Chair Emanuele Giannotti CEng, FRAeS, APM PMQ, accompanied by the RAeS London team Head of External Relations, Jonathan Clare, in the last week, we attended, on the 24 March 2025, the first Interessengemeinschaft Deutsche Luftwaffe (IDLw) e.V. “Berliner Plattform” briefing of the year. Held before an audience of around 100 delegates at the Representative Offices for the Landes Hessen, the Keynote Briefing, entitled “Flexibility of Airpower,” given by the Luftwaffe Chief of Staff, GenMaj Christian Leitges, discussed the key themes that affords the flexibility required of the Luftwaffe, including resilience, interoperability and agility to allow it to “survive, move and operate”, both as an independent entity, in association with other arms of the German military and especially alongside Germany’s Allies. He also provided examples of this in relation to recent Luftwaffe deployments and operations alongside some lessons that are being (re)learnt as a consequence, particularly those associated with the hardening of Infrastructure and Agile Combat Employment. The briefing and follow-on networking also afforded excellent opportunities to exchange thoughts, views and knowledge between the participants, that included serving and former Luftwaffe personnel, industry officials and political representatives. The RAeS wishes to thank the IDLw, particularly Director, Col (Ret’d) Manfred Jaeger, for inviting us to the excellent event and we greatly look forward to participating in future events with the IDLw in the future Matthew I C B.
