How is Artificial Intelligence Linked to Water Waste? 🌊🤖 Our recent article in Ecology & Environment, in collaboration with the Askola environmental research program, reveals a hidden environmental cost of AI: its significant water footprint. 💡 The Challenge: AI computations in data centers require constant cooling, primarily using water. Much of this water evaporates, contributing to water scarcity. 💧 The Impact: Research shows a single ChatGPT-generated 100-word email can consume over 0.5L of water. Weekly use could waste 27L annually. 🌍 Solutions: Developing water-efficient cooling technologies but also using AI tools mindfully Read more: https://lnkd.in/denqfnNK Israel Society of Ecology and Environmental Sciences (ISEES) Yuval Shnaidman Gilad Blank Noam El al #sustainability #AI #datacenters

Applications for AI in the emergency services, natural hazard preparedness and disaster recovery sector? Yesterday I completed a couple of brilliantly designed AI courses by TAFE NSW (they're free by the way - link in the comments). And it got me thinking about the uses for AI in the sector. So far I've come up with: - surveillance image recognition and alerting for fires, public disturbances etc - large-scale summarising of reports on lessons learned, AARs (After Action Reviews), weather pattern history and so on - predictive services - monitoring social media activity during emergencies - chatbots for public messaging I'm sure there's more. But I can't seem to find any strong case studies. Do you know of any? Is your organisation using AI in some way? I'd love to hear about it. #emergencyservicescommunications #artificialintelligence #aitraining

Everything went downhill when robots started checking if we are robots! Artificial intelligence is a concept that the average person considers to be recent and belongs to the modern age. But that's not exactly the case. AI enthusiasts are well aware that the idea of artificial intelligence originated from ancient Greece. Homer, Plato, Descartes... all of them thought about an inanimate creature that they attributed certain human characteristics to, which in essence carries the idea of artificial intelligence. The modern era and technological advancements fueled this idea and eventually enabled its implementation in the form of modern artificial intelligence as we know it today. We are gradually but surely approaching the historical moment of creating conscious artificial intelligence, which will fundamentally undermine the postulates on which legal orders are established. Consequently, the reflections on the possibility of assigning legal personhood to artificial intelligence are self-imposed. Discover more about this subject in the new article I co-authored with my professor Dr. sci. Ervina Ibrahimović, doc. from the Department of History and Comparative Law.

#Artificial_Intelligence_And_The_Proofs_Of_Faith Artificial Intelligence... Its Traces Are Proof of Its Creator! When we believe in #Artificial_Intelligence, we do not see it with our eyes but observe its #effects, such as the achievements it has made and the technologies developed through it. It is the product of #knowledge and expertise gathered by humans and shaped into #modern_technologies. So how can we accept the existence of artificial intelligence because of its apparent traces, yet doubt the existence of Allah, the Almighty, whose creation and management are evident in everything around us? 1. The Traces of Artificial Intelligence vs. The Traces of God’s Creation: Artificial intelligence reflects the power of the #human_mind, which is itself a #creation_of_God. Could the mind that created such magnificent technology exist without a Creator? If artificial intelligence is the result of precise programming, then God is the one who programmed the mind, created existence, and established the laws of life and the universe. 2. Artificial Intelligence and the Question of Management: Artificial intelligence speeds up #tasks and provides solutions, but behind every AI system is a human manager. On the other hand, Allah the Almighty is the ultimate manager of everything in this universe, with no partner or helper. 3. Artificial Intelligence and Its Limited Power: Artificial intelligence operates within the boundaries set by humans. It cannot exceed its programming. Allah the Almighty created humans and the universe with absolute power, unrestricted by anything. 4. Comparing the Traces: Artificial intelligence has left traces that sparked a revolution in our lives. But the traces of God’s creation are far greater: #The_Sun, #The_Moon, #The_Stars, #Life, #The_Soul, and everything around us that reflects the greatness of the Creator. 5. Innate Faith and Rational Evidence: If humans believe in artificial intelligence, which they have created and not seen, why not believe in Allah, who created them, provided for them, and holds their very breath in His hands? Human nature drives us to believe in Allah, who created this universe and perfected everything. Conclusion: Just as we believed in artificial intelligence through its traces, our faith in Allah must be stronger, for we live amidst the traces of His mercy and creation every day. How can we turn to anyone other than Him, the true manager of all our affairs? #Ahmad_Salem 🦋 #أحمد_سالم #Traces_Of_Creation #Faith #The_Greatness_Of_Allah #Proofs_Of_Monotheism #Allah_The_Almighty

Now that the dust has settled a bit on #ai, let's try and answer to these 2 questions: 1. -𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦? and 2. -𝘪𝘴 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘨𝘦? To help, try and remember when you've met a simple programmer who is better in reasoning and debugging than a computer science engineer, and an illiterate peasant who knows better his crops than a certified engineer in agronomy. Once we have answered these 2 questions, let's consider another one: "𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 #𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦"? And my final question is: -- what do you think would be the answers to these from this "godfather of Artificial Intelligence"? OMG: In artificial intelligence, 6 months is an eternity:

Come and study in our Science, Technology & Society studies program and related disciplines! I'm currently interested in LLM-based (AI) agent to agent simulations used for public engagement, deliberation, policy-making, issues of AI regulation and ethics (regulatory and exploratory sandboxes), and the technocratic expectations some have about synthetic data, digital twins and similar issues. The basic thesis and focus is experimental policy and more participatory forms of governance with a classic liberalism focus on individual rights and preventing arbitrary exercise of power.
