🌟 What is you why?🌟 Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of leading a session at the Leadership Development for Women (LDW) Lean In Circle, diving into the magic of finding and connecting with our purpose. This experience was incredibly special to me, as it allowed me to share the transformative lessons I’ve learned through #Ikigai. My adventure into discovering purpose started with the amazing Michele Simon, who first introduced me to the concept of Ikigai. This beautiful Japanese philosophy blends what you love, what you’re good at, what you can get paid for, and what the world needs. Discovering my Ikigai was life-changing... Fast forward to last year, during the 2024 cohort of #EmpowerIn, Aarti Thapar led an unforgettable session on #purpose. Which made me revisit my Ikigai after becoming a mother giving me another fresh and unique perspective on life. Combining insights from both Michele and Aarti, I was thrilled to pay it forward during this session. 🔹 Purpose Power-Up: We delved into how aligning with our true purpose can supercharge both our personal and professional lives. Thomas Merton nailed it when he said, "People may spend their whole lives climbing the ladder of success only to find once they reach the top the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall." Purpose fuels us with a deeper, more fulfilling drive beyond just ambition and can be the differentiator in leading a life you love. 🔹 Living with Intention: Through Ikigai, we explored how connecting our daily work to a greater sense of meaning not only boosts our performance but also enhances our well-being. Studies reveal that those living their purpose has a bigger impact on mortality than smoking, drinking or exercising.. I know, read that again, it blew my mind too 🤯 🔹 Stories and Values: A highlight of the workshop was sharing our personal stories and identifying core values and crafting our purpose statements. These exercises help us understand what drives us and how we can use our unique experiences and strengths to make a meaningful impact. For me, my values of wholeheartedness, freedom, and growth set as an internal compass everyday and reading the purpose statements of the group were so beautiful - they showcased the magic in everyone! Reflecting on this session, I’m reminded of the profound impact that understanding and living our purpose can have. It not only energizes us but also aligns our efforts with a higher cause, providing the resilience needed to navigate life’s challenges and gives us permission to experience the joy in what we do! 🌟 What is your why or Ikigai? Kectil Centre for Youth Excellence-Zambia Reflections on Kectil Cohort 10 Being part of Kectil Cohort 10 has been a transformative experience, and while there were many impactful speakers throughout the program, a few left an indelible mark on me. I'll share some of those insights now, with the intention to reflect on others in the future. Two qualities that stood out as crucial lessons were #intentionality and #authenticity. These foundational principles are essential to success in any field. Mrs. Kabanda Leah Lopa LPA spoke passionately about intentionality and authenticity, emphasizing how they shape our paths and ensure we remain true to ourselves and our values. Mr. Harrison Mwenda delivered a powerful lesson on character, reminding us that integrity, work ethic, and intentionality are essential in every role we take on. He also warned about the dangers of ego, emphasizing the need for humility and self-awareness. Mr. Yangeni Chendela ability to bring out the real you was both challenging and inspiring, providing concrete examples that left a lasting impact. Mr. Rodrick M. Mutale offered wisdom and guidance, which I'm grateful for. Mr. Rodrick challenges us to shift our mindset: true networking isn't about bootlicking or seeking status, but about genuine connection and asking meaningful questions. Thanks for hosting us and recommending a game-changing book, "Good Leaders Ask Great Questions" still resonates with me! #Emmanuel Mwanza E-Mark's unexpected yet profound message reminded us to maintain perspective and not let temporary setbacks cloud our vision. Mr. Dickson Jere emphasized the importance of tapping into resources and staying ahead, advising us to calculate our moves and act with integrity. Lastly, Mr. Gaurav V. CEO of 260 Brands, highlighted the need for environmentally conscious business practices, demonstrating how a strong vision and commitment to sustainability can drive impact and attract investors. His advice to avoid following the crowd and instead focus on environmentally friendly ventures resonated deeply with me, aligning perfectly with my field of study, #environmental education and management These insights, shared by each of these remarkable speakers, have shaped my thinking and will guide my actions moving forward. I loved today so much... because of my meetings....? I had three very different meetings that each reminded me of the things I love to do - and am so lucky I get to do! First off was connecting with a new contact to see if we had any symbiosis. Because we both came to the table with a shared connection? optimism, curiosity, and credibility, the result will be magical. Networking Tetris is energizing! The second meeting was filled with challenges to resolve and urgencies to push forward. I loved getting the tough topics on the table and then seeking wisdom from trusted colleagues. Strategic problem-solving works my brain in the best way! The last meeting brought together five leaders to brainstorm and make strategic decisions essential to moving business forward. I knew I was with a choice group of professionals when - over and over - we threw new ideas on the table and no one received the suggestions as criticism or threats. It was a lot of, "Yes! I love that even more!" That ego-free camaraderie resulted not only achieving the desired, but gaining a joyful consensus as well. Not all meetings suck! If I haven't mentioned it lately, I want to be really clear - I LOVE what I get to do every day with startups and I LOVE the people I get to collaborate with and from whom I'm constantly learning.
