Playing an ever-growing role within the aisles of dollar stores are private label products. Leading retailers in the channel have grown their respective assortments in recent years by developing items that are something other than name-brand equivalents. This continued effort is not only providing high-value items to consumers but also offering points of differentiation for each retailer. #dollarstores #privatebrands

𝗜𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗺’𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗰𝗼? Sam's Club isn’t just catching up—it’s making waves. With bold investments in technology and a laser focus on growth, it’s positioning itself as a serious challenger in the wholesale space. Here’s what stands out to me: • E-commerce sales soared 26%, nearly doubling Costco Wholesale’s 13.2% growth. • Same-store sales (excluding fuel) climbed 7%, a big jump from last year’s 3.8%. While Costco still leads, Sam’s Club is proving it’s not just an alternative—it’s a real competitor. With innovation at the forefront, this rivalry is one to watch. 🏪7-Eleven implements closures and sale-leaseback program amidst a “Big Gulp” of strategy change. 😲Your corner Slurpee supplier might be closing its doors as 7-Eleven plans to shutter 444 stores in North America. 💰Plus, they are also implementing a sale-leaseback plan developed to generate a profit of $520 million. The deal is expected to close in February of next year. The company didn’t reveal where the closures and sale-leasebacks are located but they did indicate they continue to open stores “where customers are looking for more convenience.” (via Retail Dive) The initiative comes alongside the company’s rejection of Alimentation Couche-Tard’s $37 billion bid to acquire them, and a revised offer reported to be as high as $47 billion. Meanwhile, 7-11 is also planning on taking the company public. Interesting stuff! ⛽It’ll be sad to see so many 7-Elevens close. What’s your favorite 7-Eleven purchase or Slurpee flavor? 📍Read more here https://bit.ly/4dVc4eN

Attractive growth for a channel that has always been a leader in private brands in the US and globally. However, understanding the shopper requirements and how to work in the C-store supply chain is where many manufacturers have not taken advantage. This channel can offer manufacturers who want to understand the route to market and deliver thought leadership profitable market share. Growth never stops, but having the right mindset to seize it and meet it where it is versus where you want it to be can make a significant difference.
Sales of private label products are growing in all channels of distribution, and convenience stores are no exception. Chains of all sizes are expanding their own brand product assortments, and the success they have had in recent years is leading to additional growth. Here's what experts had to say about the opportunities for private label growth within the convenience store channel. Thanks to Nikki Boyers at 7-Eleven, Kevin Smartt at TXB (Texas Born), and Chelsey Capps at Daymon for sharing their insights and expertise. ➡ https://lnkd.in/dprDVqSD #privatelabel #ownbrands #storebrands #retail #conveniencestores

📊 How do the country’s biggest retailers stack up against Dollar General? When most of us think of the biggest brick-and-mortar retailers in the country, we naturally think of Walmart, Target, maybe Costco Wholesale and The Home, among others. As a follow-up to my post about Dollar General's impressive 20,000-store milestone yesterday, here's an eye-opening snapshot of how they compare to the country's biggest retailers. 📌 In terms of retail sales, Walmart, of course, takes the top spot. The retailer delivered over $611 billion in worldwide retail sales in 2023 (Walmart). 📌 Net sales at Dollar General came in at $38.7 billion for DG's 2023 FY (Dollar General). In terms of store count, however, Dollar General is going where other retailers aren't and that's in the country's nooks and crannies to reach customers around the corner in their neighborhood. Here's how that plays out in numbers. 📍Five states are home to 5,800 Dollar General stores--Texas, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania- that's more stores than Walmart has across the country. (via Retail Dive) Check out the great graphic by Retail Dive below which shows how the stores compare in store count. Is the Dollar Store Channel Structurally Challenged? Shares of Dollar General last Thursday tumbled by about 30% after a second-quarter shortfall raised concerns that dollar stores in general are losing share to Walmart, Target, ALDI USA, Temu, and others built around value. Is Dollar General taking the right steps to revive sales and improve its competitive position? Read the article & panel discussion here: https://lnkd.in/eKvAv58r Melissa Minkow "Many retailers, who have broader breadth and depth are in fierce competition with the dollar store category now with their ability to deliver low prices. Dollar stores will have to secure resonant differentiators in order to stay competitive." Nikki Baird "You knew that dollar stores were taking a bite out of Walmart and Target when they started adding dollar sections to their own stores." Brandon Rael "With rapid scale and store expansions come greater complexity, increased operating costs, and more significant challenges driving outstanding execution at the store level."

Look what Pennsylvania grocer is growing👀 Regional grocer chain, Weis Markets is making some moves in light of increased profits…thanks to a helping holiday hand from Easter🐣 Weis Markets will begin construction of six new stores with each planned to open in 2025. The company will also invest in five new fuel centers! Jonathan H. Weis, chairman, president, and CEO of Weis Markets further noted: "Our first quarter 2024 results, which benefited from the Easter holiday shift, are in line with our expectations thanks to the continuing efforts of associates at every level of our company," said Weis. "We continue to navigate marketplace trends of product cost and third-party services inflation, declining government benefits, and the increasing mix of our pharmacy retail business, which has a lower margin than our grocery business. More good news for grocery and cheers to their diversified approach to running the business to keep it profitable! #grocery #storebrands #growthmindset
