Supporting employee mental health is more critical than ever. In my latest video, I discuss actionable steps employers can take to create a healthier, more supportive workplace. From fostering open communication to providing access to mental health resources, there are several ways we can make a difference. ✅ Promote a culture of openness and acceptance. ✅ Offer mental health resources and support services. ✅ Encourage work-life balance and flexible working arrangements. ✅ Provide training for managers to recognise and address mental health issues. ✅ Create a supportive community where employees feel valued and heard. Let's prioritise mental health for ourselves and our peers and build a stronger, more resilient workforce together. Additionally, understanding the SCARF Model can greatly enhance workplace dynamics. Developed by David Rock in 2008, the SCARF Model identifies five key domains that influence our behavior in social situations: Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness. These domains can activate threat and reward responses in our brains, similar to physical survival instincts. By addressing these areas, we can foster a more supportive and productive work environment. 🌟 Let’s Talk About Mental Health in the Workplace 🌟 Mental health matters. It's time for employers to step up and take responsibility for the well-being of their employees. Despite increased awareness, many workplaces still fall short in providing adequate support and resources for mental health issues. From heavy workloads and unrealistic expectations to lack of flexibility and stigma, employees often face significant challenges that impact their mental well-being. As leaders, it's crucial to foster a culture of openness, support, and understanding. This means creating environments where employees feel safe to discuss their mental health concerns without fear of judgment or reprisal. Investing in mental health initiatives, such as employee assistance programs, mental health training, and access to counseling services, can make a world of difference. Prioritizing work-life balance, promoting self-care practices, and offering flexible work arrangements are also essential steps towards creating mentally healthy workplaces. Remember, a mentally healthy workforce is a more engaged, productive, and resilient workforce. Let's work together to break the stigma surrounding mental health and create workplaces where everyone can thrive. #MentalHealthAwareness #WorkplaceWellbeing #EndTheStigma 🌈💼

✨I keep seeing posts today about what workplaces are doing to promote mental health at work. And a lot of it is utter BS. Here's why..✨ 🔵Some talk about the training they provide and the EAP service they sell out. ⚫As a training workplace psychologist, I want to cry with laughter. 🔵Workplace mental health isn't improved through training in isolation ⚫Robust person-centred policies improve it 🔵Flexibility that steps beyond having to 'make up hours' ⚫Duty distribution that's equitable and realistic. 🔵Psychologically safe culture, if it's a toxic one - a good amount of your employees know it. ⚫Managers that you can connect with and feel supported by 🔵Environments free of bullying. ⚫And approaches to people who experience marginalisation, trauma or mental health that are genuinely invested in evoking change if things aren't working for employees. 🔵EAPs that offer the same old stuff are a money spinner. They don't counter the problem when there is already one. The rates of people leaving workplaces are higher after accessing EAPs in workplaces that don't consider implementing the above strategies. ⚫An EAP has never said 'we care'. It says that you are someone else's problem. 🔵So maybe instead of tips that employees can use about improving their mental health at work workplaces can just do better. ⚫There is a reason why debates are happening about workplaces being documented as attributing to suicide on coroner's reports 💡Workplaces could just be less shit to be employed in. There's a novel idea for maintaining mental health. #livedexperience #leadership #Mentalhealth #Workplace #worldmentalhealthday

#MentalHealthAtWork 🌟 Let's Transform Our Workplace Together! 🌟 Did you know that “decent work is good for mental health”? According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “Decent work supports good mental health by providing: - a livelihood; - a sense of confidence, purpose and achievement; - an opportunity for positive relationships and inclusion in a community; and - a platform for structured routines, among many other benefits. The key to preventing work-related mental health conditions lies in managing psychosocial risks right where we spend most of our waking hours. Some of these risks include: - conflicting home/work demands; - under-use of skills or being under-skilled for work; - long, unsocial or inflexible hours; - unsafe or poor physical working conditions; and - job insecurity, inadequate pay, or poor investment in career development. By assessing and then mitigating, modifying, or removing workplace risks to mental health, we can create an environment where everyone thrives. This approach emphasises the importance of employers implementing organisational interventions to prevent work-related mental health conditions. Read more in this article by WHO: https://lnkd.in/eA6iyhpk It's time for change, and it starts with us. Let's advocate for and support organisational interventions in our workplaces. Together, we can make our workplaces a source of strength and well-being. #MentalHealthMatters #WorkplaceWellbeing #OrganizationalChange #HealthyWorkEnvironment #PreventWorkRelatedStress

“I’m not a therapist.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this over the last few years on my journey to change workplace well-being and promote mental health in a corporate environment. While I completely agree you’re not a therapist and no one expects you to be one, you can still make a significant impact in the following ways: * Show empathy * Make people feel seen * Give others the space to be their true selves * Be reasonable when ‘life’ happens * Be kind * Give recognition where it’s due * Get to ‘know’ your employees and colleagues * Be able to direct people to the appropriate resources when they’re struggling * Help manage workloads so no one is expected to work during their own time (we already spend 1/3 of our lives at work lord knows we don’t need to spend anymore) These simple actions can have a huge impact on someone who might be struggling with their mental health. On this World Mental Health Day, the focus is on workplace mental health—a critical issue that affects us all. In Europe, approximately 54 million working days are lost each year due to mental health leave, yet only about 25% of those absences are reported as mental health-related. We can all do better to create a supportive and understanding environment, even if that’s by changing one tiny thing at a time 👊🏻 #WorldMentalHealthDay #workplacewellbeing
