How to effectively collaborate with MOUD providers for patient care: Understanding the importance of collaboration with Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) providers is key to ensuring optimal care. Here are some essential points to consider: - Be aware of PDMP limitations: Methadone for addiction treatment may not be visible in certain Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs, like in Wisconsin. - Exercise caution with sedating medications: Benzodiazepines and other sedatives can heighten overdose risks when combined with MOUD. Prescribe these medications carefully. - Respect medical management: Refrain from commenting on MOUD dosages managed by other medical providers. - Support individual recovery: Avoid imposing personal opinions on someone else's recovery journey. - Prioritize confidentiality: MOUD treatment demands heightened confidentiality standards compared to other medical care. - Promote equitable treatment: Approach MOUD treatment with the same respect as insulin therapy. - Break down barriers: Seize every chance to eliminate obstacles to treatment. For inquiries or collaborations with a MOUD provider, reach out to CMS Pewaukee at 262-304-0150. Let's join forces to foster a supportive and effective environment for individuals on their path to recovery. #AddictionRecovery #MOUD #HealthcareCollaboration #PatientCare #MentalHealth #Waukesha #Overdose

Monitoring opioid usage for long-term patients is crucial for ensuring their safety and well-being. Implementing a comprehensive approach is key, involving strategies such as regular assessments, prescription monitoring programs, patient education, urine drug testing, opioid agreements, multidisciplinary care, tapering plans, abuse and addiction assessments, psychosocial support, alternative therapies, thorough documentation, and patient follow-up. By integrating these strategies, healthcare providers can optimize patient care and mitigate the risks associated with long-term opioid therapy. #OpioidMonitoring #PatientSafety #HealthcareManagement

Looking for some Friday morning reading? We have just updated 'Future priorities for the drug and alcohol treatment and recovery system', in which we lay out the top priorities for an incoming government to support a sustainable and high quality drug and alcohol treatment and recovery sector. Priorities include: 1. Committing to sustainable long-term funding to ensure that drug & alcohol services are able to effectively plan and rebuild capacity and quality. 2. Recognising the voluntary sector as a provider of vital, professional, life-saving services. 3. Utilising broader measures of impact beyond just numbers and criminal justice outcomes. 4. Implementing a full range of evidence-based interventions so that people who want to change the way they use drugs can access the support they need. 5. Meeting the needs of underserved groups including women, people from ethnic minorities, young people, and the families of people with substance misuse problems. 6. Outlining a clear plan for creating a system where no one falls through the gaps, where there is no stigma attached to addiction, and where drug dependency is treated as a chronic health condition. 7. Tackling drug related deaths by building on the progress in expanding access to naloxone, ensuring a full range of harm reduction interventions are considered, and increasing drug testing capacity. 8. Working with the sector to ensure the implementation of the recently published 10 Year Workforce Strategy.

"Guideline-concordant opioid therapy is a key part of combating the opioid crisis in the United States. The recent study published [here](https://lnkd.in/enED4Hir) makes a significant contribution to this ongoing public health challenge by exploring the rates of guideline concordant care among veterans. Utilizing data from the Washington DC and Baltimore VA Medical Centers spanning 2015 to 2019, the study delivers critical insights into the differences between mono users and dual-system users of VA services. Such research is pivotal in strengthening evidence-based strategies for opioid administration, illuminating paths towards more efficient care delivery, and ultimately saving lives. As of today, 2024-10-25, we acknowledge this study as an essential step forward in addressing disparities within veteran healthcare settings.
