Many "electric" cars are powered in part by coal. This isn't a joke or an opinion, it's just a fact - if the car is charged from a utility company that uses coal-burning power plants in its mix of energy sources (e.g., Puget Sound Energy, currently 23% coal-powered), then part of the energy used by the "electric" car literally comes from burning coal. For every 100 miles driven by an electric car charged from PSE-powered charging stations, 23 miles are powered by burning coal. Drivers may think their cars are emissions-free, but really the emissions are just happening somewhere they can't see. Changing how the grid is supplied is crucial in actual reductions in emissions.

Did you know that traditional wind turbines, with their reliance on specific wind directions, capture only 30-40% of potential energy?
