Germany is giving Ukraine an aid package containing Leopard tanks and Gepard anti-aircraft guns and is preparing to provide another €1.4B in support by the end of the year. The German government announced a new aid package for Ukraine, which included 22 Leopard tanks, 22 MRAP armored cars, five Bandvagn tracked all-terrain vehicles and one Warthog, three Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery installations, 61,000 155-mm artillery shells, one million rounds of small arms ammunition, 12 PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers, radar systems, and various types of drones. The German government plans to supply Ukraine with another arms package worth €1.4B by the end of the year. However, Germany's €8B budget for Kyiv's military support has already been largely exhausted. Among the 50 planned items are a package of ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns, 20 more Marder BMPs, and numerous reconnaissance and attack UAVs. An additional €397M resulted from the Bundeswehr's energy cost savings. Germany also collected €1B from European and global partners to strengthen Ukrainian air defenses. https://lnkd.in/d3hi-7ME

Battlegroup Dnepr "The Ukrainian losses amounted to up to 60 servicemen, ten vehicles, a 155 mm Bogdana howitzer and a 152 mm Msta-B howitzer, as well as a P-19 radar station and an ammunition depot," the ministry said. The three most important things in warfare: Logistics, logistics, and logistics. The side that runs out of ammunition first - loses. “While Ukraine registered an operational demand for 250,000 artillery rounds per month in the lead-up, they were limited to approximately 90,000 artillery rounds per month at the height of the counteroffensive.” “The number of domestic drone manufacturers has grown from seven to over 300 within the last eighteen months to keep pace with the Ukrainian armed forces’ consumption of over 10,000 unmanned platforms per month. However, production capacity takes time.” https://lnkd.in/dhSZikVx

1. The video discusses military systems and concepts that have underperformed or may be under pressure in the #Russian - #Ukraine "special military operation" conflict. 2. It establishes criteria for judging if a system is underperforming, including efficacy, efficiency, broad trends, future requirements, and potential alternatives. 3. The video examines several categories of systems: a) Non-jam resistant Precision Guided Munitions (#PGMs): - Some PGMs like #Excalibur rounds and Ground Launched Small Diameter Bombs (#GLSDB) have become less effective due to Russian electronic warfare. - This has led to decreased accuracy and increased costs per successful strike. - Alternatives like jam-resistant PGMs or wide-area effect munitions are being considered. b) Specialized Airborne equipment (e.g., BMD-4 infantry fighting vehicle): - These vehicles are designed to be air-droppable but have proven highly vulnerable in combat. - They have a high rate of catastrophic destruction when hit, potentially due to design trade-offs. - Some airborne units are moving away from truly airborne-capable equipment to more conventional armor. c) Attack helicopters: - Both Russian and Ukrainian attack helicopters have suffered significant losses. - They've been limited in their operations due to vulnerability to various air defense systems. - Their cost-effectiveness is questioned when compared to alternatives like fixed-wing aircraft or long-range missile systems. - The increasing prevalence of #drones and #airdefense systems may further threaten their viability. 4. The video suggests that these experiences in Ukraine may lead to reassessment of investment in these systems by militaries worldwide, with some countries already scaling back plans for attack #helicopters in favor of #unmannedsystems or other alternatives. 5. The presenter cautions that while these systems may be under pressure, it doesn't necessarily signal their immediate obsolescence, but rather a potential shift in how aggressively they're invested in or utilized in future conflicts.

The continuing adaptation of the Ukrainian red legs, how the war continues to change what works -- from cannons, to guided munitions, to long-range missiles, and then back to unguided cannon shells! "The soldiers here claim that there are still many advantages to artillery over drones. For example, artillery can hit targets much more quickly, and the shells have enough explosive power to crack armored vehicles. In addition, a hail of artillery is utterly terrifying, dealing a profoundly shocking effect on enemy morale that drones cannot yet match." https://lnkd.in/e3PxFpkR

The French procurement agency (Direction Générale de l’ Armement, DGA) has awarded a contract to support the development of the KATANA® guided ammunition, which was initiated by KNDS France. KATANA® meets the pressant need for high-precision artillery ammunition in both low and high intensity warfare: its performance limits collateral damage in urban areas and enables dealing more effectively with high value targets such as artillery systems, radars or command posts. The modular design of KATANA® means that it can evolve to integrate new technologies as soon as they are available on the market (particularly for use in GNSS denied environments). Its modularity also means that local components can be integrated as part of a production transfer, making it easy to export. The KATANA® guided ammunition has unrivalled in Europe accuracy and target neutralization capacities. KNDS France is thus expanding its product range and becoming one of the few manufacturers to master all existing types of artillery ammunition. The KATANA 155mm guided artillery ammunition is a priority program of the Nexter Group that meets the needs of modern artillery and is compatible with all types of 155mm guns of the JBMoU (Joint Ballistic Memorandum of Understanding) standard. With a maximum range between 30 km for the first generation and 60 km for the next, KATANA will strike targets with pinpoint precision. The projectile’s guidance is ensured by a hybridisation between a GNSS signal receiver and an inertial measurement unit. The KATANA shells will offer the best performance in range, accuracy and terminal effect for existing 155 mm munitions, while retaining the traditional artillery qualities: continuous fire, all-weather capability, high cost/efficiency ratio. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gTK8VzMy
