🌟 Great presentations by Yike Xie, Evgeniia Shcherbinina, Gayathri Narasimhan, and Angana Patel (who presented in place of Nadia Gul) during the WCMTM and AstraZeneca postdoc seminar in April! In this industry postdoc program, a PI from each organization joins forces with a shared postdoctoral researcher. Together they conduct a research project focused on innovation and health benefits. While presenting methodologies, results, and timelines, the postdocs also underscored a vital aspect: the invaluable access to both the university and the AstraZeneca labs, capabilities, and network. Pernille B. Laerkegaard Hansen who is Executive Director and Head of Bioscience Renal and CVRM at AstraZeneca, was one of the participants at the seminar: “The joint postdoc program is intended as a close collaboration allowing the researchers to work as one single team, although placed in different organizations and locations,” Pernille said. Last week, Team Pennsylvania attended the 𝘉𝘪𝘰𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘉𝘦𝘳𝘬𝘴 conference, hosted by the Berks Biomedical Innovation Collaborative (BIC) in partnership with Alvernia University. Highlighting this work led by my colleague, Will Cragg, about developing resources for participants who withdraw from clinical trials. Stopping participation can be a tough process for participants. People have reported feeling 'abandoned', or find it difficult to communicate reasons for stopping participation, or communication from research staff about what happens as a result of stopping participation, makes it more difficult. But the work hadn't really been explored in depth, and we found that sometimes participants can be excluded from important communications like study results without clear justification. A co-developed resource to provide support to research participants who stop taking part was produced. I really enjoyed being involved, particularly being led by Will and watching him manage this project with a group of public contributors whose experience and skills were essential to informing the direction of the work. Grateful for the enriching insights gained at the webinar on "Design Research Questions: Practical Tips" by Giving back to pharmacy in Pakistan. Explored the challenges faced, from novice training gaps to seasoned researcher pressures and limited funding. Delved into various parameters for topic selection: previous courses, new data, current developments, topical subjects, and personal experience. Learned to craft scientific inquiries using the PICO criteria and evaluate them via the 'FINER' framework.
