Air India transformation journey a test match, and we are at lunch on day 3: CEO Campbell Wilson When Campbell Wilson took over the reins of the then recently-privatised Air India Limited in 2022, the task before him was an onerous one—to turn a long-neglected and struggling #airline into a world-class carrier. Wilson, while noting that a lot of work remains to be done to transform Air India, appears satisfied with the progress so far. Transforming Air India, according to him, is a “test match, not a T20”, and the airline group is about at “lunch on day three” of the match. “I acknowledge that we are not where we ultimately aspire to be. We have some work yet to do. But there is a reason why The Economist said that this is the ‘Everest of corporate turnarounds’. There is a reason why our Vihaan.ai (transformation) programme was five years...we are little over two years into that whole journey. We have a few years yet to go, but I think if we look at the first two years, it has been a good start,” Wilson said. More in the story. Campbell Wilson, the CEO of Air India Limited, is spearheading a transformative journey for the airline, emphasizing the need for enhanced efficiency and consistency in operations. Recently, he highlighted the airline's commitment to strengthening its practices to ensure not only operational consistency but also profitability. This strategic shift comes as Air India has faced financial challenges since its merger with Indian Airlines in 2007, although recent efforts have shown a marked reduction in losses. Under Campbell's leadership, the airline has initiated the refurbishment of its narrowbody aircraft and plans to begin upgrading its legacy widebody planes in 2025. He stated, "We will strengthen and tighten our practices and processes," indicating a clear focus on operational excellence as a pathway to profitability. These upgrades are part of a broader strategy to elevate service standards and meet new customer expectations. The airline's revenue also saw a substantial increase, rising by 24% to ₹51,365 crore. This positive trend underscores the effectiveness of the ongoing transformation initiatives aimed at revitalizing the brand and improving customer satisfaction. To support these ambitious plans, Wilson revealed that Air India has allocated $400 million for refurbishing 67 legacy aircraft, which will include new seating and upgraded in-flight services. As he noted, these enhancements are intended to raise the bar on what customers can expect from Air India, ultimately positioning the airline for a more profitable future. #AirIndia #CampbellWilson #Aviation #Profitability #AircraftRefurbishment #CustomerExperience #cxolanes

Air India buys 85 Airbus jets, eyes more Boeings, sources say Air India has continued a dramatic bid to recapture a place among top carriers by placing a new order for 85 Airbus jets and now eyes more Boeings on top of an historic purchase of almost 500 jets from the two planemakers, industry sources said. The Airbus order emerged in a routine industry update as the national carrier mourned the death of the former chairman of parent Tata Group, business and aviation pioneer Ratan Tata. Airbus said late on Wednesday an unnamed customer had placed an order for 75 A320-family jets and 10 long-haul A350s - a deal worth $6.3 billion after typical discounts, according to Cirium Ascend data. Airlines frequently keep their names under wraps to avoid revealing their fleet strategies to competitors. Three industry sources said that Air India was the airline behind the order, which involves exercising options and comes barely a year after it ordered 250 new jets from Airbus and 220 from Boeing to revive its status with an all-new fleet. Air India to increase cargo capacity by 300% in next 5 years: CEO Campbell Wilson… New Delhi - Air India has announced plans to triple its annual cargo capacity by 2028. CEO of the national carrier, Campbell Wilson says he sees enormous potential in the cargo ecosystem. “Our cargo division is implementing a series of strategic measures aimed at fostering growth and strengthening our market presence,” campbell said. “The large passenger belly capacity addition will be augmented with the launch of value-added products and services across the network.” Wilson says the belly capacity of the Air India fleet will grow significantly over the next few years, given the carrier’s expected influx of new wide-body aircraft to its fleet this year. In addition to pre-existing orders, deliveries from its 470-strong aircraft order in February are expected to start later this year. Wilson says the extra aircraft will add two million tonnes annually (a 300% increase) to Air India’s cargo capacity within five years. Additionally, the CEO adds that “initiatives” including the adoption of new technologies, investments in infrastructure, developing a more integrated cargo market, expanding network reach, and broadening the airline’s capacity to carry diverse products will also help increase Air India’s cargo carrying capacity. #AirIndia #Vistara #FleetGrowth #FullServiceCarrier #AviationNews #StarAlliance #India #travel #AirIndiacargo

JUST A RANDOM THOUGHT ! 👇 When a new market opens up, many industry players rush in and sector gets extremely crowded, but the companies which learns from the mistakes of others that tend to survive and capture a larger share of the market and eventually survive. Example, during the #telecom boom, several players like Uninor, Tata Docomo, Aircel, Videocon, RCom, BSNL, Hutch, Idea, Airtel and many others entered the market. Today, only four of them remain, with two of them still struggling with losses. Something similar also followed in #airline industry where Jet Airways, Air Sahara, Air Carnival, Damania Airways, East-west Airlines, Air Deccan, Kingfisher Airlines, Go First, Air Pegasus, Air Costa and etc airline companies have shut their operation and only few like Indigo, Air India, Vistara, Spicejet and Akasa Air are surviving. What's the conclusion here? which sector is currently experiencing such clutter? #finance #economy #companies #India #sectors #bankruptcy #leaders
