It was my absolute privilege to author this article. Mental Health matters, and every Aviator out there deserves the chance to know that and feel that they can take care of themselves without fear of unjustified career retribution. #Pilote #MentalHealth #AeroCrew #Aviation #FAA #PilotMentalHealth ✈️🤍
Thank you to the Aero Crew News team for breaking down The Mental Health in Aviation Act of 2024. Read more about the bipartisan effort to address access to health care resources for aviators: https://lnkd.in/g-6Wj8FF

The FAA is evaluating recommendations from the Mental Health and Aviation Medical Clearances Rulemaking Committee, which aims to reduce barriers preventing pilots and air traffic controllers from reporting mental health issues. The committee, established in December 2023, includes members from aviation industry trade associations, pilot and controller organizations, academia, and medical professionals. These efforts build on the FAA’s ongoing mental health priorities for aviation personnel. Thanks to Rep. Sean Casten for reconvening #aviation professionals for a roundtable to discuss legislative efforts to address #mentalhealth #stigma at the #FAA. Rep. Casten is championing efforts to improve pilot access to medication, address gaps in mental health access for US service members and veterans, and bring more transparency and accountability to FAA aeromedical policies. Together, we can end mental health stigma in aviation culture by creating space for #pilots to access medically necessary treatment without compromising their medical certification or threatening loss of income. #aerospacemedicine #aeromedicalcertification

Indian government to build 50-plus HEMs hubs along key roads The Indian government plans to build more than 50 helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) hubs along key roads in the country. The plans were revealed by the country’s civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, according to the Asian health organisation eHealth, the Enterprise of Healthcare. Providing critical helicopter ambulance medical support in remote and underserved regions, each unit will be equipped with specialised helicopters to transport trauma victims and patients to the nearest hospital. The flagship HEMS unit will open at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Rishikesh in India’s northern state of Uttarakhand, in the Himalayan foothills beside the Ganges River. The aviation minister also unveiled a Helicopter Accelerator cell, as part of the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation, to help speed the development of the rotary industry. “This dedicated platform will focus on regulatory support for helicopter operations, expediting processes that are typically constrained by rules designed for fixed-wing aircraft,” said the organisation. The minister also urged manufacturers and others to establish maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities within the country. And he highlighted the potential of heli-tourism in the country. The minister was reportedly speaking at the the Heli Power India 2024 conference organised by the Rotary Wing Society of India (RWSI). Full story via the link.
