Life after cancer, is really life after cancer treatment. Often it isn't the cancer that makes you unwell but the invasive treatments to save your life. Yesterday I was given the fantastic news from my team at Mater Cancer Care Centre that after doing life after cancer treatment for 4 years, I am still cancer free! Breast Cancer is starting to look like a blip in my rear view. Please take this as a reminder to conduct self checks and if anything at all does not feel right, seek medical advice. 👩⚕️ Let’s talk about the power of conversation in cancer care. Lauren Hamel, PhD, is tackling one of the most vital—and overlooked—aspects of cancer treatment: communication. Her research at Wayne State University School of Medicine focuses on improving how clinicians and patients talk to each other, especially for patients facing disparities in cancer care and outcomes. Her work aims to ensure that every patient, regardless of their background, gets the understanding, support, and treatment they deserve. With the support of our research funding, Dr. Hamel is showing that a single conversation can spark hope, change outcomes, and redefine cancer care. 🌟
