On today’s episode of myth-busting: ❌ Coaching is the same as therapy ✅ While coaching can have therapeutic effects by increasing self-awareness and reducing stress, it is fundamentally different from therapy. Therapy often focuses on resolving past issues and improving emotional and psychological well-being. Coaching, on the other hand, is oriented towards goal setting and performance enhancement in the professional context. ❌ Coaching is only for top executives ✅ There’s a misconception that coaching is reserved for CEOs or other high-level leaders. In fact, coaching can be beneficial at all levels, from emerging leaders and mid-level managers to individual contributors who wish to advance their careers. ❌ The results of coaching are difficult to measure ✅ Some believe that the impact of coaching is too intangible to quantify. However, many coaching outcomes can be measured through specific metrics related to job performance, achievement of goals, team productivity, and employee engagement. Clear objectives at the onset of coaching can help in measuring its effectiveness. #excellenceiscontagious #executivecoaching

The importance of coaching culture… “That is the beauty of coaching. You get to touch lives. You get to make a difference” Morgan Wootten A coaching culture helps to create a supportive and empowering environment, encouraging and enabling employees to develop and grow through a process of self reflection, experimentation and collaboration. A coaching culture reduces attrition, increases employee engagement, enhances growth and development and boosts productivity and business performance While there is a lot of emphasis on the importance of certifications and processes for a coach, it is not necessary that you have to be a certified coach to hold a coaching conversation. However, it is important for any leader wishing to act as a coach to equip themselves with the key skills and knowledge to hold effective coaching conversations. One of the first things to remember is to identify a) When to have a coaching conversation b) Whom to coach c) What is the objective and outcome of the conversation To hold a coaching conversation, 3 steps are critical… 1. Listen carefully As a coach, you need to listen in an empathetic and respectful manner. More importantly, listen to the values, beliefs, concerns and desires being expressed That requires listening to the unsaid, understanding what is behind the words 2. Respond in a thoughtful, neutral and unbiased manner Asking powerful questions is the best way to uncover more information, enable reflection and create self awareness and help the coachee discover their own solutions. 3. Resist providing solutions Coaching is all about assisting the coachee to find their own solutions. The urge to provide answers is an overwhelming and powerful force. It is essential that coaches leave their ‘rescuer’ mode and focus on questioning and listening. Image credit Center for Creative Leadership #leadership #coaching #conversations

The GROW Model Sir John Whitmore, a British Executive Coaching pioneer, defines coaching as “unlocking people’s potential to maximize their own performance.” The GROW Model, also known as situational coaching, was originally developed in the 1980s by Sir John Whitmore and his colleagues. It’s a simple yet powerful framework that balances directive and non-directive approaches to coaching. If you are a leader who is new to the concept of coaching and would like to give it a try, here are the 4 step of GROW in simplified terms: ● Goal - What change do you want to make? What problem do you want to solve? What goal do you want to achieve? How will you know when you have achieved it? What is the time frame? ● Reality - What is the current situation? Why is this important to you? What resources are available? What have you tried so far? What is getting in the way of accomplishing your goals? Options - What has worked in the past? What hasn’t worked? What steps could you take now? Who could help you with this? Where could you find the information? What might someone else do in your shoes? ● Will - What steps will you take to accomplish your goal? Who will you talk to? What resources do you need to gather? What will it take for you to commit? How will you hold yourself accountable? #LeaderAsCoach #CoachApproach #CoachingMindset #MindFitCoaching I am Kyle Pertuis, Founder and Head Coach at MindFit Coaching. 🤔 Ever wonder why some managers seem to inspire growth and confidence while others struggle to keep their teams engaged? As workplaces evolve, managers are facing more demands than ever, and many are finding it hard to keep up. In fact, a recent report (https://lnkd.in/gxJQNW2) found that 75% of HR leaders say managers are struggling with expanding responsibilities, leading to burnout and turnover of key talent. 🚀 Here’s where coaching comes in: As managers are expected to bring out the best in their teams, coaching is an effective way to achieve this. Effective coaching isn’t just about giving feedback or motivating individuals or teams; effective coaching supports and facilitates a learning (or change) process through active listening, presence, and powerful questions. This approach leads to profound learning, enhanced self-awareness, and new perspectives, empowering coachees to explore new possibilities and take meaningful action. Curious about how a tailored coaching programme can make a difference? Let's talk. 💬 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e7wEJvNS #ExecutiveCoaching #TeamDevelopment #LeadershipTraining Harry Marshall Sally Dellow Eric Sampson Katherine Sum
