Partners' recognizes today, June 19th as Juneteenth. Juneteenth, also known as “Freedom Day” and “Emancipation Day,” is a significant day in American history. Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. Going forward, the country now recognizes Juneteenth each year to reflect on our history and commit to doing better. The legacy of Juneteenth illustrates the power of African Americans’ perseverance, strength, resilience, and refusal to give up hope, even in the toughest of times. However, June 19, 1865, did not mark the end of their journey towards achieving freedom, equality, and justice. It was only the beginning. Let us recognize the accomplishments of those who have fought long and hard for civil rights and social justice and acknowledge the work that we must continue to do to address institutional racism and systemic inequality.

How have they shaped your sense of belonging and connection? 💭 Now, consider how religious groups, in particular, have shaped civic life in America. Regardless of whether one has a faith tradition, we have much to learn from how faith-based organizations have fostered trust and social capital in the U.S. and why they are vital to slowing the civic decline in our nation. 🫱🏾🫲🏼 The latest brief from The Policy Circle in partnership with Ambassador Enterprises, LLC explores this topic, from early settlers to civil rights to modern-day efforts like refugee resettlement and educational initiatives. 📚 See more about the brief below. 👇🏼 #CivicEngagement #SocialCapital #FaithInAction #CommunityBuilding #Leadership Leslie Hiner Kate Carney Eric Baxter

In today's political climate, it is easy to focus on what divides us, viewing the country through an "us versus them" lens. But every day, local leaders and ordinary citizens across the country are working to build a stronger civic culture and mutually supportive communities. Today, my team at the American Academy of Arts & Sciences released "Habits of the Heart and Mind: How to Fortify Civic Culture," a powerful new publication that reminds us America is united by people who believe in its ideals and who balance their self-interest with the well-being of their community and country. The report is a call to action - for each of us to find ways to drive healthy conversations with neighbors, embrace participation in civic life, and invest in what makes us a strong, diverse nation. Today, we commemorate #Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history and the long and painful era of enslavement. Though the Emancipation Proclamation took effect on January 1, 1863, ostensibly freeing those enslaved in Confederate States, Juneteenth marks the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reaching the most distant corners of Confederate territory with Union troops arriving in Galveston Bay, Texas on June 19, 1865. Meanwhile, the Thirteenth Amendment would still be necessary to end slavery throughout the United States. Juneteenth is a celebration of #emancipation, #resilience, and the enduring spirit of the African American community. It's a day to reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to achieve true #equality and #justice in all aspects of life, including healthcare. We honor this day at PACE Healthcare Capital and reaffirm our commitment to invest in solutions that promote health equity and better ensure quality healthcare for all. Together, we can build a more inclusive and just healthcare system.
