I'm thrilled to announce today that BioCraft has achieved a milestone in bringing sustainable, humane pet food to the world: EU authorities have granted us the required legal registration to begin selling our animal cell-cultured ingredients to EU pet food producers.    The regulatory space for pet food ingredients in the EU is a bit tricky to explain as there’s no pre-market approval process to sell these ingredients. This means that animal cell-cultured ingredients are not subject to "approval" or "registration" directly; rather, approval or registration is granted to the facility producing these animal by-products.   The safety of any ingredient used in pet food is the legal responsibility of the company producing it, which in Biocraft´s case has been determined through extensive testing.   At BioCraft, the health and safety of our fur babies is our priority. Full stop. And rigorous testing and analyses takes time. This is why, before applying for registration, BioCraft spent the better part of 3 years to develop a robust Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan, with safety studies performed by multiple third-parties confirming that our product is non-GMO/non-immortalized, pathogen-free and free from undesirable substances, with over 100 nutrients profiled and compared to traditional "meat slurry" used in the pet food industry. (Spoiler: BioCraft's nutritional profile is very similar to traditional slurry, revealing an amino acid profile rivaling that of traditional chicken slurry, and an omega fatty acid 6:3 ratio that is superior to conventional meat.)   I would like to thank the incredible BioCraft team Loukia Hadjistylianou, Robert Soukup, Rupal T., Chai Molina, Claus Lux 🏳️🌈🇺🇦, Marta Manicone, Marta Saraiva Campos Serra, Eduard Willms and Arin Basu; funding support from FFG Austrian Research Promotion Agency; and BioCraft's visionary investors SOSV, Tim Draper, Tilia Impact Ventures, Orkla Food Ingredients AS, KEEN Growth Capital, Tony Allard, FoodHack, and our many amazing angel investors for making this possible. I'd also like to extend a special thanks and shoutout to Patricia Heydtmann and the team at Partner in Pet Food (PPF) for our many conversations and their dedication to sustainable pet food.
