One of my all-time favorite coaches was Dean Smith, head basketball coach for the University of North Carolina. He taught, preached and drove teamwork on every one of his teams. There is a business parallel. The right team can elevate your business. The wrong team can hold you back and keep you from achieving your goals. Here are 5 ways to ensure you don’t follow the latter: 1️⃣ Hire Better Take your time to hire. Develop a hiring process and follow it. A week with an empty seat is better than 6 months of incompetence and disruption. 2️⃣ Assess Culture Fit Talent is important but if a prospective team member is not a fit with your core values, that mismatch will be frustrating for both of you. A culturally fit average candidate often beats an overachiever who is a cultural mismatch. 3️⃣ Drive Accountability Take the time to onboard your new team members and set them up for success with a clear picture of what they are responsible for delivering. Following team processes is mandatory and the best examples should be their leaders. They should know that targets and deadlines are priorities. 4️⃣ Celebrate Success Take the time to celebrate the wins because that will motivate your team to win more. It promotes a culture of winning and injects an element of fun. 5️⃣ Reward Competence Motivate the team to consistently deliver their best. Sincere gratitude means you notice the work and appreciate the effort. This is a fundamental responsibility of any leader. You can offer target-based bonus systems, surprise incentives, etc. Be creative. When competence is rewarded, the team is motivated to go above and beyond. Investing in the right team today will pave the way for your business’s success tomorrow. Found this helpful? Follow me (Tim Stoll) for more insights on leadership & team dynamics.

Beyond the usual such as "listen more" or "give recognition," Be a different kind of leader instead. Use these 10 “uncommon” hacks to elevate your leadership style: 1. Give Away Ownership of Ideas. ↳ When someone brings a great idea to the table, let them take full credit—and encourage them to lead its execution. It fosters confidence and creativity. 2. Send Unexpected Notes of Praise. ↳ Handwritten notes or personal emails sent out of the blue, highlighting specific contributions, create lasting goodwill. 3. Protect People Publicly. ↳ When someone on your team makes a mistake, take accountability publicly and address the issue privately. It builds trust and psychological safety. 4. Ask About Their Future, Not Just Performance. ↳ During 1:1s, ask team members what their dream role looks like—whether it’s within your company or not. Show genuine interest in their long-term personal growth. 5. Let Them Teach. ↳ Ask your team to lead a workshop or share their expertise with peers. Teaching builds confidence and recognition. 6. Create Personalized Growth Plans. ↳ Instead of generic career paths, co-design plans tailored to their unique goals and strengths. Be their coach, not just their manager. 7. Acknowledge Emotional Labor. ↳ Recognize and validate when employees navigate tough personal or workplace dynamics. Sometimes just saying, "I see how much effort this took," is powerful. 8. Celebrate Their Off-the-Clock Wins. ↳ Did someone run a marathon? Master a new skill? Cheer for their personal achievements as enthusiastically as their professional ones. 9. Delegate Authority, Not Just Tasks. ↳ When delegating, give team members decision-making power. It shows trust and builds leadership skills. 10. Be the First to Admit You’re Wrong. ↳ Leaders who openly own mistakes create a culture of honesty and humility. Your example sets the tone for the entire team. ♻ Repost this to inspire your network. As a leader, don't treat people as you would like to be treated, but treat them as they would like to be treated. #2025goals #empoweringleadership #respectforpeople

Strategies to Boost Team Motivation In today's fast-paced, dynamic work environment, team motivation isn't just a "nice-to-have"—it's an essential factor for success. After extensive observation and practice, I’ve identified six key strategies that not only drive performance but foster a culture of genuine connection and growth. Ask for Feedback and Act on It Listening is the first step, but real leadership happens when you do something with what you hear. When team members see their ideas taken seriously, they feel valued. This reinforces trust and a sense of ownership over their work, elevating both engagement and innovation. Recognize Efforts and Contributions Recognition is a powerful motivator. Pay attention to the hard work, the late hours, and the extra mile your team goes. Let them know, in no uncertain terms, that you see them. This acknowledgment creates a direct line to increased morale and dedication. Challenge and Support Growth happens outside of the comfort zone. Challenge your team to take on new roles or responsibilities that stretch their abilities. But don't leave them stranded—always be there, ready to catch them if they stumble. This balance between autonomy and support is critical to long-term development. Care Beyond the Work People work harder for those who genuinely care about them. Leadership is personal. Take time to know your team members—their passions, struggles, and aspirations outside of work. A leader who invests in the whole person earns a deeper level of commitment. Understand Their Career Ambitions and Clear the Path. Your team has ambitions beyond their current role, and it’s your job to help them get there. Learn their goals, then actively remove obstacles in their path. Provide opportunities, mentorship, and guidance to help them soar, whether within or beyond your team. Trust and Empower Empowerment is one of the most meaningful ways to show trust. Let them lead initiatives, make decisions, and take ownership. Most importantly, let them know you have their back. When they feel trusted, they will give their best and more, with unwavering dedication. In the end, leadership is about creating an environment where individuals feel heard, supported, and valued. Why Your 'Strength' Is Weakening Your Team: We've been conditioned to believe that an iron fist and an impenetrable emotional armor are the hallmarks of effective leadership. But what if this widely-accepted "truth" is the very toxin slowly asphyxiating your team's potential? The Paradox Pyramid of Compassionate Leadership Foundation: Vulnerability Breeds Strength ↳ Conventional Wisdom: Leaders must always appear strong and infallible. ↳ Truth: Showing vulnerability creates an environment of psychological safety, fostering innovation and risk-taking. Level 2: Empathy Accelerates Efficiency ↳ Conventional Wisdom: Emotions hinder productivity and should be checked at the door. ↳ Truth: Acknowledging and addressing emotional needs dramatically increases focus and output. Level 3: Softness Cultivates Resilience ↳ Conventional Wisdom: Toughness and pressure create resilient teams. ↳ Truth: A nurturing environment builds internal fortitude, enabling teams to weather storms more effectively. Level 4: Individuality Strengthens Unity ↳ Conventional Wisdom: Uniformity and strict hierarchy maintain order and cohesion. ↳ Truth: Celebrating unique strengths and perspectives creates a more adaptable and cohesive unit. Peak: Compassion Catalyzes Competitive Edge ↳ Conventional Wisdom: Cutthroat competition drives success. ↳ Truth: A culture of genuine care and support unleashes unparalleled creativity and commitment, leaving competitors in the dust. Dismantling the Armor: A Leader's Journey to Authentic Strength #1 Embrace the Discomfort: → When was the last time you admitted to your team that you didn't have all the answers? If the thought makes you squirm, you're on the right track. #2 Empathy in Action: → Replace "What's wrong with you?" with "What's happening for you?" Watch as problems transform into opportunities for growth and connection. #3 The Vulnerability Experiment: → In your next team meeting, share a recent failure and what you learned. Notice how this act of courage ripples through your team's dynamics. #4 Compassion Metrics: → Revolutionize your KPIs by measuring psychological safety, employee wellbeing, and the number of innovative ideas generated. These are the true indicators of a team poised for breakthrough success. The Paradoxical Power Move: Instead of demanding respect, → offer it abundantly. The future belongs to those who dare to lead with both their heads and their hearts fully engaged. The question isn't whether you can afford to lead with compassion. It's whether you can afford not to. P.S Are you brave enough to be the leader your team is silently begging for? --- ♻️ Share with your fellow leaders and let them know we are here with them! - Laurie Banfi

Your title doesn't make you a leader. How you choose to treat your team does. The best leaders make people feel valued and seen. Appreciation is the greatest gift you can give your team - it costs nothing but means everything. What to do as a leader: ✅ Appreciate impact and contributions: ↳ Even a simple thank you goes a long way. ↳ Show genuine appreciation regularly, not just during reviews. ✅ Provide growth opportunities: ↳ Listen and understand their career aspirations. ↳ Create paths for advancement before they look elsewhere. ✅ Ask for their input when making decisions: ↳ Appreciate diverse perspectives. ↳ Create an environment where every voice matters. ✅ Make time for meaningful 1-on-1s: ↳ Ensure your meetings are safe spaces for honest discussions. ↳ Build trust through active listening. ✅ Ensure fair compensation: ↳ Regularly review and adjust compensations and benefits. ↳ Everyone deserves to be paid for their worth. What to avoid as a leader: ❌ Taking people for granted: ↳ Not feeling valued is a top reason people disengage and leave. ❌ Taking credit for your team's work: ↳ Claiming their achievements as your own destroys trust. ↳ Celebrate successes and learnings. ❌ Rewarding your high-performers with more work: ↳ Reward them by supporting their career aspirations instead. ↳ Help them grow; don't just add to their plate. ❌ Setting unrealistic goals: ↳ Don't set targets that will require regular overwork. ↳ Success shouldn't come at the cost of well-being. ❌ Disrespecting personal time and boundaries: ↳ Expecting 24x7 availability leads to burnout. ↳ Respect their lives outside of work. Be the leader you wish you had. What's one small gesture from a leader that made you feel truly valued?
