𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆, 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. Sales “no problem.” vs Quality “It's a nightmare.” Welcome to the food industry. At VMT Food Safety Event, I spoke with Quality, Safety and sustainability leaders buried under compliance questionnaires and customer requests. At the Food ingredients Europe , I met Sales teams from the same companies who initially barely noticed the problem of those very same requests. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲? For (most) Sales, answering compliance questionnaires or signing customer requirements are a task to hand off after the money part is done: "We just pass them to Quality." But for Quality, it’s a different story: "These requests take up half my team’s energy, and it's becoming more" —The most frustrating is when deals are signed and only then we start looking at each if we can actually meet those requirements. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺? 1. Sales do not always see it as a value adding activity. 2. Quality, Safety and sustainability colleagues are losing time they could spend making products safer, more innovative, or more competitive. 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗹𝘆 some companies are different. Sales and Quality are working together by: • Segmenting customers into tiers: Top-tier customers get full support; others receive general statements. • Using shared inboxes to track. • Building FAQs to reduce duplication of work. And then there’s 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. When I shared Passionfruit —using AI to automate questionnaire and requirement responses—it was incredible to see the enthusiasm from both. The idea of freeing up Quality teams’ time while delivering faster, more reliable answers in the exact format customers need? No-brainer. Transparency is the secret to growing a sustainable business. Teams must align to make it work It’s more than just being efficient—it’s about collaboration, clarity, and improving results for operations, sales, and adding value to customers.
