Important strategic lessons:

With Commonwealth Bank’s decision to stop lending money to fossil fuel companies that don’t measurably reduce emissions, it’s clear that Australia’s finance sector is aligning with more responsible, sustainable practices mandated by regulation and governed by boards. CBA isn’t alone—other banks like Westpac, National Australia Bank and ANZ are making similar commitments, signaling that this is the new standard for lending practices. For those of us in the financial services sector, particularly in 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, this shift means aligning our strategies with the changing landscape. I’ve seen how these trends are influencing lending decisions, making sustainability an important part of risk management strategy. As more financial institutions go down this road, adapting to these evolving standards will be important for success. These include: - A three-year HK$2,159 million sustainability-linked term loan ("SLL") with maturity in 2027 and a two-year extension option. - A HK$250 million revolving loan. The facilities will be used for refinancing the existing club loan, and for general corporate needs. The facilities are backed by 5 distinguished banks, namely: - DBS Bank (also as Sustainability Coordinator) - CMB Wing Lung Bank - OCBC (also as Sustainability Coordinator) - HSBC - China CITIC Bank International Limited The SLL is at HIBOR plus 0.7% per annum, a reduction of 40 bps from the existing club loan, and is subject to further discounts based on our sustainability KPIs. CIB Egypt is the leading private-sector bank in Egypt, offering a broad range of financial products and services to its customers, which include more than 500 of Egypt’s largest corporations, enterprises of all sizes, institutions, and households. CIB’s strong brand and growth in retail and SME banking segments continues to introduce new customers to the bank. As a result, CIB has succeeded in becoming the most profitable commercial bank operating in Egypt for more than 40 years. The Bank was founded in 1975 as Chase National Bank, a joint venture between Chase Manhattan Bank and the National Bank of Egypt (NBE). In 1987, Chase divested its stake to NBE, who renamed the former joint venture Commercial International Bank. Over time, NBE’s ownership in CIB declined, and in 2006 a consortium led by Ripplewood Holdings acquired NBE’s remaining 19%. In 2009, Actis, a Pan-African private equity firm specializing in emerging markets, acquired 50% of Ripplewood Consortium’s stake and became CIB's single largest shareholder, with a 9.06% stake. The emergence of Actis as CIB's predominant shareholder marked a key transition in the bank’s strategic relationships. In March 2014, Actis divested 2.6% of its stake in CIB on the open market, maintaining its seat on the board, and in May of that year, sold its remaining stake to several wholly-owned subsidiaries of Fairfax Financial Holdings. Fairfax Financial Holdings owns through its wholly-owned subsidiaries a total of 6.55% of CIB’s shares, making it the only strategic shareholder in CIB. I am just travelling from SIBOS in #Beijing to the Asia Pacific Conference in #NewDelhi as Deutsche Bank and our Deutsche Bank Corporate Bank announce its third quarter results. With divisional revenues of €1.8 billion, our Corporate Bank remains in line with our projected path. Our #TeamCB has delivered outstanding results, once again contributing significantly to our bank’s group-wide performance. The recent interest rate cuts in the US and the Eurozone underscore the importance our strategic shift towards diversification, away from interest rate dependency, reaffirming our commitment to long-term stability and scalability.
