For a long time, the conventional thinking was “online and on-ground programs should be separate.” But I’m starting to think the future might be different. The downside to splitting them is you fragment your efforts. In most cases, institutions are using different CRMs, different SIS systems, and different teams. Different marketing strategies can get particularly gnarly. If you have one group handling marketing for ground and another handling online, it becomes tricky to avoid stepping on each other’s toes. Tricky to avoid confusing students. Tricky to measure and track what’s working. I think for a long time the reason for keeping them separate was a view that online education was inferior. And to be fair, in the early days, this might have been true. But the academic quality and learning experience of online has gotten SO much better. While it requires different things from the faculty, the quality gap has closed. In the coming years, I think you’re going to start to see more universities embracing a “one school” strategy. One that gives students access to their best faculty and student experience, no matter where those students are located. One set of systems. One technology stack. One curriculum for each program. One application experience. One marketing budget, with one strategy and all the synergies that come from that. Same enrollment calendar. Same faculty. No “University of X” and “University of X Online/Global/Whatever”. Just “University of X.”

It was during lockdown that I first considered writing a blog about education. By that point I’d been out of the classroom for 5 years, the recurring nightmares were slowly easing up (I’m not even joking, and I’m also not the only teacher I know it happens to), and I noticed I had a lot left to say (and it turns out to do) about the English education system. The circumstances afforded me a day of rabbit-holing on youtube to find out if the hype about the Finnish education system was in fact all that good, and this is what came out of it. My first attempt at organising my thoughts into something cohesive that I could share. A lot has changed since that day in 2020 (and indeed since my direction-changing decision in 2015), but what has never faltered is my desire to see our young adults equipped with the tools to navigate their future, with confidence, clarity and drive. Morphise was created out of that pursuit to see more and more people thriving and realising their potential. So I’m excited to share this blog post with you and to invite you to the next free webinar I’m hosting (on the 7th May, 7pm GMT). It’s for parents, teachers, school leaders, youth workers, anyone with a stake in the progress of young people. But mainly it’s aimed at young adults. Those who are curious about what their future could hold, who realise each person is best placed to solve their own problems when we think deeply and ask interesting questions, and who are ready to find out what makes them the person they are, rather than someone else’s version. Link is in the bio, or check out the ‘Young Adults’ section of the website, and I hope to see you there. https://lnkd.in/eg4f-tiS
