The article shares some of the key findings of McKinsey & Company latest research my colleagues Prasad Ganorkar and Tobias Schneiderbauer presented at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show: ➡️Market Growth: The North American truck market is set to grow through 2035, with 90% of OEM profits coming from non-truck sales. ➡️Profit Shifts: Future profits will stem from an expanded ecosystem, including financing, leasing, charging, and data services. ➡️Truck-as-a-Service (TaaS): Over 70% of fleets are interested in TaaS, pushing OEMs to provide integrated solutions. ➡️Infrastructure Investment: $7 billion needed by 2030 for charging infrastructure, increasing to $20 billion by 2035. ➡️Tech Diversification: By 2040, the market will balance with 36% battery-electric, 27% hydrogen, and 37% internal combustion. ➡️Cost Reduction: BEVs need a 30-50% cost reduction to match diesel TCO, with autonomous trucks becoming cost-effective by 2030. #autonomousvehicles: Volvo revealed its first “production-ready” self-driving truck that it’s making with Aurora, the autonomous driving technology company. The companies have tested their technology on public roads, with Aurora having driven 1.5 million miles on commercial roads. The initiative, powered by the production-ready Volvo VNL Autonomous truck equipped with the advanced Aurora Driver system, marks a significant milestone in scaling autonomous transport solutions.
