The UK is seeking broader nuclear power options. There is a consideration for a range of technologies for future large-scale nuclear power plants as it seeks to revitalise the sector, says the chair of Great British Nuclear, Simon Bowen. The UK would need 'at least another couple' of large nuclear power stations after the two currently in development by EDF, to help meet its 24GW of nuclear capacity by 2050. All but one of Britain’s current fleet of nuclear power plants is set to close by the end of the decade, leaving a gap of about 16GW.

China has added more than 34 gigawatts of nuclear power capacity in the last ten years. China's nuclear power fleet as of April 2024: 🔵 55 operating nuclear reactors 🔵 53.2 GW of total net capacity The United States has the largest nuclear fleet, with 94 reactors, but it took nearly 40 years to add the same nuclear power capacity as China added in 10 years. Despite rapid capacity growth in 2022, nuclear power made up only about 5% of China’s cumulative power generation that year. Canada to build the largest nuclear plant in the world by adding 4,800 MW of new nuclear to the Bruce nuclear power plant. This will makes it the largest nuclear power plant in the world with 11,35MW of capacity. Bruce Power, the private company that controls the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, to begin planning four new reactors with a combined capacity of up to 4,800 megawatts. CANDU CAN DO. CANDU nuclear reactors are a Canadian legacy of innovation. As a Canadian, I am proud of one of the safest, most efficient, and most reliable nuclear energy technologies in the world. Canada’s home-grown nuclear energy technology is already playing a significant role in achieving ambitious Net Zero targets set by Canada and other countries. I was amazed by some facts. CANDU reactors generate about 15% of Canada's electricity. The Bruce generating station in Ontario is one of the largest nuclear power plants in the world and has a total generating capacity greater than India’s 22 nuclear power reactors combined. As CANDU designs are also adopted by other countries, 5.5% of global nuclear output is sourced from CANDU reactors and this number is expected to grow with the growth of nuclear energy output around the world. Moreover, CANDU reactors have made Canada energy-independent through domestically produced equipment and parts. #CANDU #nuclearenergy

My main concern is highway safety in the region.

A Massive U.S. Nuclear Plant Is Finally Complete. It Might Be the Last of Its Kind. Cost overruns and delays at Southern Co.’s Plant Vogtle pushed U.S. nuclear power in a different direction. A new nuclear reactor reached commercial operation in Georgia on Monday, completing a project whose delays and sticker shock helped upend the near-term prospects for nuclear power in the U.S. The first two reactors at Plant Vogtle, operated by Southern Co., opened in the 1980s. ARTICLE: Ground was broken on the world’s first potential coal-to-nuclear power plant transition in June. Existing transmission lines and water infrastructure (necessary for cooling both coal-fired power equipment and nuclear reactors), means developers could cut significant time and costs off of plant construction. The World Nuclear Association finds that costs associated with the lifespan of nuclear plants are heavily weighted toward the capital required to construct the facility, making up at least 60 percent of their levelized cost of electricity. A 2022 Department of Energy report found new nuclear power plants could cut construction costs by more than one-third.
