This is a universal, true, iron-clad business behavior, regrettably, namely cutting back on commissions. Business folk think it is a sign of prudence and power either changing it - especially if they have bought an existing business, or someone trying to make a name for themselves - and succeeding in the short term - scaling it back or making thresholds a non-motivator. What they chose to ignore are the consequences. For one thing, it would be as the book and movie title says, “Mutiny on the Bounty.” You also know that a highly-motivated sales force and the results issuing from their activities give companies’ forward momentum and inertia. And as a result, and this “should” wake you at 3AM, a good salesperson will always be working - for those that reward production. The bottom line is there only because there’s a top line. If it’s an issue of margins, get the business first and “pretty-it-up-later” through tweaking operations, increasing margin point-by-point. I know first hand this “behavior” as an employee eons ago - which persuaded me to resign and “retire,” and later - now - as a former logistics business owner observing the myopic - and self defeating - view in the industry. This is what a truly wise person said about all this, from Proverbs 3.27. And a wise person or persons will take heed of this ancient yet up-to-date Solomonic injunction. #sales #logistics
