OK, Boomer" and Other Near-Miss Moments: A Gen X Leader's Guide to Gen Z Speak Picture this: You're in a meeting, feeling rather chuffed about your new project idea. Suddenly, a Gen Z team member looks up and says, "OK, Boomer." The room goes silent. You're not even a Boomer, for heaven's sake! 😱 Don't fret, I've been there. As someone who remembers the excitement of Live Aid and the fall of the Berlin Wall, navigating Gen Z communication can feel like trying to understand the latest Little Mix lyrics. But fear not! Here's your survival guide: Embrace the Feedback Firehose: Gone are the days of "no news is good news." Gen Z wants feedback like they want their oat milk flat whites - constantly and customised. Give this a go: "Sarah, quick chat about that report? Loved the graphics, reckon we can jazz up the intro?" Unleash Their Creative Beasts: Give them room to innovate, or watch them bounce faster than contestants off Strictly Come Dancing. Challenge accepted: "Right, Jake, this project needs a fresh spin. Fancy running with it and showing us what you've got next week?" Chart the Course (but let them drive): Gen Z is ambitious, but they need a map. Show them the possibilities, then hand over the keys. Navigator mode: "Alright Team Z, here's where we want to be in 5 years. How d'you reckon we get there? And where do you see yourselves in this journey?" Remember, it's not about trying to be "down with the kids" (a phrase that would probably make them cringe harder than we did at our parents' disco moves).
