How to stay up to date online
Nowadays, there are many online learning services for you to choose. Some platforms are good at basic knowledge and other platforms are good at deep knowledge. As a marketer, I need to choose not only the knowledge that I can use directly with my work but also insights from other kinds of knowledge that you can apply to your work. Hope this is useful for you.
Basic knowledge services
As a marketer, I keep learning from many services, such as Lynda (Owned by LinkedIn), Udemy, Skillshare, Skillane (in Thai), and Coursera which cover all the basic knowledge that you should need.
Book Summary service
When I am too busy to read a complete book, I like to read the short versions available on the sites below. I know it is not the best way to read because we should read all the details in each book. But we have limited time, so the kind of service offered by Blinkist and GetAbstact can help us.
Learn from superstar
Another service I love is MasterClass.com. The teachers are ‘superstars’ in their specialist areas. For example, you can learn how to write non-fiction with Malcolm Gladwell. You can learn deep knowledge from this site. For example, how to lead a business with Ex-Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. Although they do not teach many technical skills, they provide insights that are hard to find on other platforms.
In Thailand, there is a company which tries to duplicate this idea named MyOneClass. All the classes are in Thai. I found it is useful, but they have just started to produce the classes so the choices are limited but the quality is good.
Online service from leading universities
Most of the learning services above are paid services, but these are free. If you prefer to get some free class (but also come up with quality) I recommend that you to try online service from universities; for example, ‘Space' by Chulalongkorn University. Here are some of their class titles: Intro to Startup Management, Sensing Opportunity from Big Data, Essential Finance for SMEs, Business Analysis through Financial Statements, Heartful Marketing, and Service Marketing.
TED
Yes, I believe all marketers love TED. It is a great inspiration source. It is difficult to find time to watch everything I am interested in, so I usually just watch the clips that have already added Thai subtitles. In particular, I search for something that may be useful for marketing, such as ‘storytelling', ‘ideas', or 'creative thinking'.
BTW, if you have time, becoming a TED translator will help you to understand the English text better and also provide a service for those of us with limited time.
These are my online learning services. What about you? Please share.
