“We do not want to leave any disease behind because it was mislabeled as neglected.” – Landry Tsague Dongmo, MD MPH PhD. Neglected Tropical Diseases (#NTDs) are a symptom of inequity—deeply tied to poverty, stigma, and lack of public voice. These diseases persist in disadvantaged #communities, where limited access to healthcare, research, and funding exacerbates the cycle of neglect. It's time to #change the narrative. Every disease matters. Every person deserves access to prevention, treatment, and care—regardless of their economic status or geographic location. 🌍 Let’s advocate for #HealthEquity and ensure no disease—and no one—is left behind! #BeatNTDs #GlobalHealth #AHAIC2025 Africa CDC Kenya Youth Against NTDs World Health Organization AMREF Nigeria Health Watch

"Young people are reshaping Africa’s solutions. They are not just pointing out the problems—they are stepping up, innovating, and driving real change. Young Africans are not just the future; they are the present, and we need to support them." – Ms. Oumaima EL Idrissi, City Councillor and Member of the Mayor's Cabinet, City of Casablanca. Across the continent, youth-led initiatives are revolutionizing sectors—from public health and climate action to digital transformation and governance. They are leading bold conversations, pioneering disruptive innovations, and challenging outdated systems that no longer serve Africa’s ambitions. Yet, for their impact to be fully realized, we must create space for their leadership, amplify their voices, and invest in their potential. We must move beyond tokenism and ensure that young Africans have the resources, mentorship, and opportunities to take ownership of the continent’s development. This is why platforms like #AHAIC2025 are critical—they bring youth to the decision-making table, foster multi-sectoral collaborations, and ensure that Africa’s young changemakers are not just heard, but empowered to lead. 💡 The future isn’t tomorrow. It’s now. Let’s stand behind the youth who are creating the #Africa we want to see. #ConnectedForChange Y-ACT Youth In Action Bitania Lulu Berhanu AMREF Dr. Githinji Gitahi Africa CDC Youth Africa CDC World Health Organization Gates Foundation Gates Foundation Africa Desta Lakew

Empowering #women and #girls goes beyond equality—it’s the foundation for healthier communities and stronger health systems across Africa. When women thrive, families, societies, and entire nations benefit. A healthier #Africa begins with empowered women and girls. Let’s keep championing rights, equality, and empowerment for ALL! #AHAIC2025 #ConnectedForChange #IWD2025 #InternationalWomensDay
✨On this #InternationalWomensDay, we honor the fearless individuals unlocking equal #rights, #power, and opportunities for all in Africa. When women are empowered, entire communities thrive, and #health systems become stronger and more equitable. At the just concluded Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC), 2025, we recognised the following six extraordinary change-makers whose leadership drives transformative change in #health, gender equality, and #community empowerment. Their efforts are ensuring that no woman or girl is left behind in the fight for better health outcomes. ✔️ Dr Loyce Faith Nangiro ✔️ Vedastina Vedasto Shumbusho ✔️ Divine Ingabire ✔️ Dr Sandra Jumbe ✔️ Mariatu Gbassay ✔️ Leon Lidigu (male ally). 🔹 Why Women’s Empowerment Matters for Health: ✅ Women are at the heart of healthcare, making up nearly 70% of the global health workforce, yet they face systemic barriers to leadership. ✅ Investing in women’s education and economic empowerment leads to healthier families, reduced child mortality, and stronger health systems. ✅ Gender-equal health policies ensure that women’s health needs—maternal care, mental health, reproductive rights—are prioritised. A healthier #Africa starts with empowered women and girls. At Amref Health Africa, we stand for their rights, equality, and empowerment! #IWD2025 #AHAIC2025 #ConnectedForChange World Health Organization Africa CDC Women in Global Health Women Deliver

Patriarchy, Gender, and Health Inequities: Removing the Barriers Gender barriers severely restrict progress for girls and women in Africa. Inequality is perpetuated by harmful norms like female genital mutilation (FGM/C) and child marriage, along with the stigma surrounding sexual and reproductive health issues. Many countries overlook these issues in their policies, delaying gender equality and preventing African nations from benefiting socially and economically. Addressing these barriers is essential for progress.
