What if everyone could achieve their maximum potential, irrespective of their socioeconomic background? Our latest McKinsey research shows that by tapping into talent from lower socioeconomic backgrounds (SEBs), Europe could bridge its skills gap, enhance workforce productivity, and boost the continent’s GDP by as much as 9 percent. To make this happen, companies need to act. McKinsey’s new report on social mobility in Europe identifies 21 initiatives that companies can take across the employee life cycle, with a focus on seven key areas, including: -Paid internship programs to remove financial barriers for low-SEB individuals. -Data-assisted recruitment to connect low-SEB individuals to opportunities -Inclusive recruitment practices to reduce socioeconomic bias. -Inclusive promotion practices to address disparities in career advancement Learn more about our research here: https://lnkd.in/eBn-8DCi

The Gates Foundation conducted a series of research to understand which moments in life have the greatest impact on an individual’s chances of moving up the economic ladder and determining lifetime earnings. These "mobility experiences," represent key forks in the road where an individual's prospects at economic mobility can improve or be negatively impacted. JP Julien and Ryan Rippel speak more on the research and mobility experiences here: https://lnkd.in/e2MiAFrp #EconomicMobility #InclusiveGrowth

Economic mobility is critical to any society. The chance at economic opportunity, having control and autonomy over one’s life, and being valued in a community drives us to be better, to create, and to build. However, the chance of experiencing economic mobility is not evenly distributed. Systemic gaps due to race, economic status, geography, and other factors impact the ability for some to improve their socioeconomic realities. This affects lives and livelihoods and mutes the potential of families and economies. Five years ago, McKinsey embarked on an effort to accelerate economic mobility in Black communities in the US, showcasing the potential for coordinated action among private, public, and social sector leaders to drive economic inclusion for all. Today, we are honored to announce we are expanding our Institute’s scope — allowing us to catalyze action to improve the realities of millions of Americans who also face significant barriers to economic mobility. Under our newly expanded McKinsey Institute for Economic Mobility, we will continue our focus on Black populations while broadening our efforts to advance economic mobility across the United States, with initial targeted initiatives focused on rural America and Latino populations.
