Yesterday, our contractor partner on the California Tower, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., was awarded the Liberty Mutual Gold Safety Award for outstanding workplace safety in 2024. In 2024, McCarthy’s crews completed more than 830,000 work hours, with an annual DART rate of 0.24 – significantly lower than many of its competitors. According to UCOP, only 8% of its projects win this award. We are proud to partner with a team that prioritizes strict compliance with safety standards while leading one of the largest healthcare projects in the country.

We're thrilled to announce the start of the Central Utility Plant (CUP) Expansion project at UC Davis Health! This transformative project, approved by the UC Board of Regents, is a key step toward supporting campus growth while advancing sustainable energy initiatives. In collaboration with our design-build team, led by Nacht & Lewis, Buehler, Affiliated Engineers, Inc., Mazzetti, Siegfried Engineering, Redwood Electric Group, Airco Mechanical, & Preston Pipelines, we're proud to play a role in the first steps to transition the campus to renewable electrical energy supplied by SMUD's 100% renewable energy program, Green Energy. 🌿 This project reflects a shared commitment to reducing fossil fuel use and achieving a greener, more sustainable future and a beautiful Net Zero building. Together, we’re helping UC Davis Health lead the way in reducing its carbon footprint while supporting the health and well-being of its community. Let’s keep building a better tomorrow—one project at a time. 💚💡 #RudolphandSletten #Sustainability #UCHealthh

#AggieSquare has hit substantial completion! Come check out our beautiful new Knowledge Community in Sacramento, CA: https://lnkd.in/gYD_fkdD . Thanks to thousands who have contributed to this Project- this 2019 vision by Chancellor Gary S. May with University of California, Davis & prior Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg has come to full fruition. Our partnership with the University of California, Davis & the City of Sacramento has created such a beautiful addition to Sacramento. I am grateful to have George Baxter celebrate his nearly first year in his inaugural role of Chief Innovation and Economic Development Officer and to Mary Mumper for everything she does for this Project. There are countless names to thank and to celebrate. This would not be possible without our incredible Construction Project Director Chris Nienhueser, our Project Manager Annie Snyder, our head of leasing Larry Cambra, MBA, our Director of Connect Labs Nikki Sims, our West Region SVP Scott Fees, LEED AP; along with our entire Wexford Science & Technology, LLC team, especially our in-house counsel and COO Danielle Howarth, and SVP of Construction Chris Peterson, our Asset Management team Brendan McHugh & Mark Korczakowski, our Finance leads Jonathan Ades, Steve Bernstein, CPA, & Jim Jacobs, our marketing genius Sami Proctor, our Core & Shell lead visionary Joe Reagan and our fearless leaders Jim Berens and Ted Russell. And to the guy who got me the job 5 years ago, Travis Sheridan, & my mentor Rosalio Arellanes. This vision would not have any shape or grandeur without our top-tier design firm ZGF Architects and their dozens of subcontractors (Affiliated Engineers, Inc., Thornton Tomasetti, Cunningham Engineering Corporation) & without our world class General Contractor The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (and their dozens of subcontractors). Our Connect Labs interiors were beautifully designed by SmithGroup & our art fabricator SPMDesign.. To our steadfast capital and thought partner, Ventas, Inc.; to our Residential partner GMH Communities; and our Broker and property management partner Cushman & Wakefield. And finally- to Bernie Craig; this Project is a tribute to his feisty determination and passion. He would be immensely proud to know we finished on-time and under construction budget! It truly takes a village. Exterior photo credit: Wayne Tilcock.

Congratulations to our Artwork & Signage Program Project Manager Myrna Saldaña for curating the third annual Healing HeARTS employee art exhibit! Myrna collaborated with the UC Davis Health Experience Design team to develop the virtual submission form, establish the selection guidelines for the art committee and provide input to finalize the artwork curation. She also coordinated scheduling, managed installation logistics with the art consultant and installers and provided program support to the Experience Team from inception to the opening event.
The hallway connecting the North Addition Office Building (NAOB) and the hospital recently got a few fresh coats of paint—and colored pencils, wood and even yarn. The third annual Healing HeARTS employee art exhibit is officially open. Forty-seven new works of art adorn the walls in celebration of our staff’s incredible creativity. This year’s exhibit theme was Healing. The program asked artists to submit creations that demonstrate art is not only a form of self-expression but also a powerful tool in the healing process. “I am grateful to the artists who make me smile everyday as I pass what they have shared with us,” said Chief Nursing Executive Christine Williams. Art has been proven to aid in wellbeing and the healing process, both for those who create it and those who enjoy it. If you find yourself in the first-floor NAOB corridor, make sure to check out the latest creations from your UC Davis Health colleagues!

At UC Davis Health, the governing approval to move facility projects forward is shared between three entities: the Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO), FP&D’s Building Department and the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAi). Each of these Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) has various responsibilities and jurisdictions throughout the design review and construction processes. This collaborative approach between AHJs is truly unique. Few other UC programs integrate the Building Department so early in the design process and in tandem with its FMO. The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) looks at our process as a template for the future of cooperative compliance, helping save both time and money while constructing facilities. Learn more how this cooperative compliance works at our website: https://lnkd.in/gpMZJCrX
