Reigning UFC women’ strawweight champion Zhang Weili is officially hitting the silver screen.

Zhang, who is coming off a dominant title defense over the previously undefeated Tatiana Suarez at UFC 312 this past February, will be making her cinematic debut on April 4 when her new movie, “After Typhoon,” is officially released. The UFC champion appears to have a pretty significant role in the film.

The official movie description is below (for more information on “After Typhoon” check out the IMDB page HERE):

After a typhoon, two troubled girls meet on a paradise island. Lin Momo was sexually assaulted, while Ah Xi became mute after her mother’s suicide. Their friendship helps them confront their respective traumas and secrets.

This shouldn’t come as a huge shock to fight fans. While Zhang is an introvert compared to some other boastful UFC champion she is a massive star over in China. There was always going to come a time when she was asked to star in a film. Zhang just needed to express interest and find a movie that made sense.

The reigning UFC champion released a short clip previewing her official movie debut, which can be seen in the above video player. She also sent a message to her fans ahead of next week’s release.

“A short movie clip. Please bear with me. It‘s my first time acting. I myself can hardly believe that I could do this,” she wrote.

Zhang, 35, is currently riding a five-fight win streak since 2022 and has defended her UFC women’s strawweight title three times during that span. There’s not much left for the Chinese star to accomplish in her current weight class so she may need to move up and challenge current UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko in a massive superfight.

That is, of course, if Zhang doesn’t leave her MMA career behind to become a full-time actress.
