Nine dead, 21 injured in Balochistan gun and bomb attacks

QUETTA/ISLAMABAD  -  Three people including two policemen were martyred and 21 others including four policemen sustained inju-ries in a bomb blast that target police van at Double Road in Quetta on Thursday.

According to police sources, the blast occurred near the police mobile van when it was crossing the area. As a result, two police personnel martyred on the spot and 21 others including citizen sustained injuries.

The bodies of the victims and the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital’s trauma centre where treatment of the injured was being started in supervision of Managing Director Trauma Centre Dr Arbab Kamran. One of the deceased persons was identified by police as Abdul Jabbar.

The injured person include Ahmed Khan, Sir Gull, Muhammad Jamil, Muhammad Hussaim, Shafiq Ahmed, Abdul Razaq, Hyatullah, Attaullah, Habibullah, Muhammad Bilal, Kamran, Khalil Ahmed, Noor Ahmed, Mu-hammad Faraz and  Yasin while authorities were yet to identity two of the injured.   

Law enforcement agencies reached the site and cordoned off the entire area and started investigation to determine nature of the blast. Meanwhile, Balochistan Government strongly condemned the blast near of Police mobile at Double Road Quetta.  

Balochistan government spokesman Shahid Rind said that an explosion has taken place near a police mo-bile on Quetta Double Road.

The spokesman said that the Balochistan government strongly condemned the explosion and added that the nefarious design of anti-peace elements would be foiled through contribution of security forces and pub-lic for interest durable peace of the province. He said that those elements involved in the incident would be brought to justice saying that special directive was issued to the Health Department to provide best medi-cal facilities to the injured in the hospital. He said that such cowardly attack could not weaken the moral of security forces and the public adding that steps were being taken to enhance security measures for ensur-ing protect of public lives and their property in the area in a head of Eid-ul Fitr.

President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday condemned the explosion near a police mobile on the double road in Quetta. In a statement here, the president expressed deep sorrow and regret over the loss of precious lives in the blast. President Zardari said such heinous acts in the holy month of Ramazan reflected the nefarious objectives of the terrorists. He prayed for the highest ranks for the deceased, patience for the bereaved families and speedy recovery of those injured in the explosion.

Also, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday strongly condemned the blast in Industrial Area, Barkat Market Quetta and expressed his sorrow over the death of two people in the blast.

In a statement here, the prime minister prayed for the highest ranks of the deceased and patience for their bereaved families. The prime minister directed to provide the best medical facilities to the injured. He also directed to immediately investigate the incident, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

The elements spreading violence in Balochistan were the enemies of the development of Balochistan, he said, adding, “We will never allow the evil intentions of the terrorists to succeed and will continue the war against the scourge of terrorism until it is completely eradicated from the country.”

‘Gun attack in Gwadar’

At least six persons were killed in a firing incident that took place near Kalmat area of Gwadar district of Balochistan, rescue workers and police sources said on Thursday.

According to officials, unknown gunmen opened fire and killed six passengers who were travelling to Kara-chi from Gwadar area of Balochistan. Rescue team rushed to the site and shifted the dead bodies to hospi-tal. Police team also reached the spot and started search for the perpetrators. However, no arrest was made so far till the filling of this report.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday strongly condemned the killing of five passengers in a firing incident in the Kalmat area of Gwadar.

The president and prime minister, in their separately issued statements, prayed for peace for the departed souls, early recovery of the injured, and strength for the bereaved families to bear the loss.

“The terrorists are the enemies of the country’s development and prosperity of Balochistan. They cannot see progress in Balochistan,” the president said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the authorities concerned to provide the best possible medical treatment to the injured people and investigate the incident to identify and punish the perpetrators.

Calling the miscreants the enemies of peace and development, he said that their cowardly actions of killing innocent people reflected their brutality. “We will never allow the anti-state designs of miscreants to suc-ceed,” he resolved.

Prime Minister Shehbaz praised the security forces and law enforcement agencies for thwarting the nefari-ous designs of the anti-state elements. The entire nation, including myself, is proud of them, he remarked.
