Former Germany and Bayer Leverkusen coach Berti Vogts has signed a one-year contract to coach Kuwait.
Vogts, fired as Leverkusen coach at the end of the last Bundesliga season, had denied recent reports linking him with the Kuwait job, saying that talks had ended in failure. It was confirmed today, however, that the 54-year-old had now agreed the deal.
Kuwait have been without a coach since February when Dusan Uhrin was fired following the team's early exit from the Asian World Cup qualifying tournament.
Vogts won 96 caps as a player for West Germany and was part of the 1974 side that won the World Cup. He then went on to manage the national side from 1990 to 1998, winning the European Championships in 1996.
