Canada’s Lauren Kim returns to Augusta playing elite golf for Texas Longhorns

John Chidley-Hill, The Canadian Press 5 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 7:21 PM CDT

Lauren Kim's first time playing in the Augusta National Women's Amateur was a singular experience. Not just because it's one of the most historic golf courses in North America, but because she played the final round of the elite tournament alone.

Kim had made the cut at Augusta last year but, because there was an odd number of competitors, she wound up playing her final round alongside a marker. Effectively playing by herself worked because she fired a 71 — one of the few to score under par that day — to tie for 14th.

"I wasn't comparing myself to another player in the field," she said. "I think that's what made it more fun, because I was by myself, and I had no idea what was going on in other groups, and I was just playing golf, and I had crowds with me.

"I almost made a hole-in-one on No. 16, which is very exciting, because I had a lot of friends and people watching me on that hole, and I almost pulled it out and made the crowd go wild. That round in general was so fun and special, I think it's pretty hard to forget."

LPGA Tour takes center stage in Las Vegas as PGA Tour plots future return

Mark Anderson, The Associated Press 5 minute read Yesterday at 1:57 PM CDT

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Reigning Player of the Year and world No. 1 Nelly Korda is back in the Las Vegas area this week to defend her T-Mobile Match Play title.

The LPGA Tour event is Las Vegas' star professional golf attraction of the year, especially since the PGA Tour won't host a tournament in the city for the first time in more than four decades.

Dropping Las Vegas from the schedule — which occurred after Shriners Children's Hospital ended its 18-year sponsorship in October — was a big blow to a city known as a golf destination for hackers and scratch players alike.

But it might not be a permanent setback.

The Masters goes on without Tiger Woods. No joke

Doug Ferguson, The Associated Press 6 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 1:33 PM CDT

Tiger Woods can't get back to golf soon enough. Anything to keep him off social media.

First came words rarely heard from Woods — “Love is in the air” — in his social media post last week confirming he was in a relationship with the former daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, accompanied by a two photos, one of them snuggling on a hammock.

More confounding, of course, was posting the photos along with a plea for privacy. But that was right out of his playbook from a decade ago when he was dating skiing great Lindsey Vonn. Provide proof (photos) to devalue and discourage the paparazzi.

Tuesday brought something new from Woods — an April Fools’ Day joke.

TGL indoor golf hitting a younger audience and already contemplating expansion

Doug Ferguson, The Associated Press 7 minute read Yesterday at 7:43 AM CDT

For those who think golf needs a longer offseason, TGL might be the ticket.

The high-tech indoor golf league wrapped up its inaugural season last week with Billy Horschel hitting the putt heard’ round the SoFi Center to lead Atlanta Drive to the title over New York.

And now it goes away for nine months.

Mike McCarley, the co-founder of TMRW Sports with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, began taking notes even before the season started on what can be improved for 2026, whether it’s technology or having players connect with their city (San Diego native Xander Schauffele plays for New York).

Hyo Joo Kim rallies with 64, beats Lilia Vu in LPGA playoff in Arizona

The Associated Press 3 minute read Sunday, Mar. 30, 2025

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — Hyo Joo Kim rallied from a four-shot deficit Sunday with an 8-under 64 to force a playoff, defeating Lilia Vu on the first extra hole with a six-foot birdie putt in the Ford Championship.

Kim won for the seventh time on the LPGA Tour and emerged from a long and wild day in the desert at Whirlwind Golf Club with 10 birdies in the 19 holes she played.

Vu hit a splendid bunker shot on the par-5 17th to set up a short birdie to tie Kim. Her approach on the 18th bounded across the firm green, she chipped to seven feet and holed the par putt for a 68 to send the tournament into extra holes.

Vu missed a birdie putt from about 15 feet, setting up Kim for the win.

HOUSTON (AP) — Min Woo Lee kept his calm amid tremendous charges by Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland, winning the Houston Open on Sunday for his first PGA Tour title with the best lag of his life that set up a final par for a one-shot victory.

Lee bent over and repeatedly clutched his fists when his 55-foot putt settled inches from the cup on the 18th hole, leaving him a tap-in par for a 3-under 67. He finished at 20-under 260, breaking the tournament record by four shots.

Lee led by five shots on the back nine until Woodland, who played his last four holes in 4-under par to tie the Memorial Park course record with a 62, made his charge.

Scheffler, in his final start before defending his Masters title, ran off four straight birdies to get within one shot until his 7-iron on the 18th hole came up some 25 yards short of the pin. He chipped to a few feet for par and a 63.

“It's hard — it's really hard,” Lee said. “Obviously, Scottie is a wonderful golfer and he keeps you on your toes. The first time being in front, I'm glad I got it done. I'm very exhausted. It was a lot of mental grind. I'm so proud of how I handled myself.”

Every shot mattered after Lee made one bad swing to make what looked like a Sunday stroll turn very stressful. He led by five shots on the back nine until Woodland, who played his last four holes in 4-under par to tie the Memorial Park course record with a 62, made his charge.

Former LIV Golf player Chacarra wins Indian Open for his 1st European tour title

The Associated Press 2 minute read Sunday, Mar. 30, 2025

NEW DELHI (AP) — Former LIV Golf player Eugenio Chacarra overcame a slow start to win the Indian Open for his first European tour title on Sunday.

Chacarra shot a 1-under 71 in the final round to finish at 4 under and clinch the victory in his ninth tournament on the European tour. The Spaniard ended up two shots ahead of Japanese Keita Nakajima, who shot an even-par 72 in the final round.

Chacharra, who was playing on a tournament invitation, won in his fifth LIV start but was left off the Fireballs roster for the 2025 season by fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia.

“I’m very grateful for that opportunity," he said, thanking organizers for the invitation. “You guys probably changed my life from today so thanks for that.”

Lilia Vu makes 3 straight birdies for 2-shot lead over Hull in Arizona

The Associated Press 3 minute read Saturday, Mar. 29, 2025

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — Lilia Vu finally made a bogey and then lost her lead Saturday. She responded with three straight birdies for a 4-under 68, giving her a two-shot lead over Charley Hull of England going into the final round of the Ford Championship.

Vu began the tournament by going 41 holes without a bogey, a streak that ended on the sixth hole of Whirlwind Golf Club.

Far more damaging was the double bogey she took on the 14th hole, which dropped her into a tie for the lead when Hull made a left-to-right putt from 15 feet for birdie on the 16th.

That only sharpened Vu's focus, particularly on the greens. She answered with a 40-foot birdie putt up a ridge on the 15th. She judged a wedge perfectly with the wind at her back and it rolled out to two feet on the 16th.

HOUSTON (AP) — Min Woo Lee chipped in for birdie to take the lead and then left Scottie Scheffler and everyone else in his wake Saturday with a 7-under 63, giving him a four-shot lead in the Houston Open as the Australian closes in on his first PGA Tour victory.

Scheffler began the third round with a one-shot lead and was stuck in neutral at Memorial Park, making birdie only on the par 5s and missing a few par putts in the six-foot range to fall five shots behind with a 69.

Lee, the 26-year-old younger brother of LPGA major champion Minjee Lee, turned a bunched leaderboard into big separation around the turn, which included a tee shot on the par-3 ninth that was inches from going in for an ace, a 12-foot birdie putt on the 10th hole and an approach to five feet on the 12th.

He had eight consecutive one-putt greens, though some of those started just off the green allowing him to putt.

The Associated Press 4 minute read Friday, Mar. 28, 2025

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — Lilia Vu didn't feel her best on the range. She made up for that on the golf course Friday with an 8-under 64, giving her a two-shot lead over a group that includes Nelly Korda and Jeeno Thitikul in a Ford Championship packed with LPGA stars.

Korda and Thitikul, the Nos. 1 and 2 players in the women's world ranking, were grouped together in the morning and put on quite a show at Whirlwind Golf Club.

Thitikul had a birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie start and was 6 under through six holes. She shot 29 on her opening nine, with Korda at 31. Thitikul wound up with a 64, Korda with a 65.

“It was like a great tempo. We kept our rhythm really nicely,” Korda said. “When everyone is playing nicely, you kind of feed off each other as well.”

Scottie Scheffler ties record with 62 for the lead in the Houston Open

The Associated Press 5 minute read Friday, Mar. 28, 2025

HOUSTON (AP) — Scottie Scheffler opened with two straight birdies and was on his way Friday in the Houston Open, tying the Memorial Park record with an 8-under 62 for a one-shot lead when the second round was halted by darkness after a two-hour storm delay Friday.

It was the most complete round of the year for Scheffler, who missed the first month of the season recovering from a glass puncture in his right palm that required minor surgery.

The only green he missed was on No. 2 — his 11th of the round — and he holed that from just inside 30 feet for birdie.

“Yesterday I felt like I made a couple key par saves, and today I felt like for the most part I kept the golf course in front of me and I had a lot of looks for birdie,” Scheffler said. “So I didn’t feel like I was struggling for par too much, and that was mostly because I was in the fairway.”

HOUSTON (AP) — Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy wanted a final tune-up before the Masters and spent parts of the Thursday at the Houston Open under an umbrella in wind and rain that prevented anyone from getting too far away.

Keith Mitchell made a late eagle and Ryan Gerard let a good start slip away by finishing with two bogeys. They both wound up at 5-under 65, tied for the lead with Alejandro Tosti and Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont. when play was suspended by darkness.

Scheffler didn't dazzle. He just didn't do much wrong, one of his best attributes. The world's No. 1 player played bogey-free and made a pair of long birdies on the back nine that added to a 67, leaving him two shots behind.

“Conditions were pretty tough out there today with the rain and the wind, so overall nice to keep a clean card,” Scheffler said.

The Associated Press 4 minute read Thursday, Mar. 27, 2025

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — Charley Hull ended her long and active day without any blood seeping through her sock, only a bogey-free card of 9-under 63 that gave her a one-shot lead over Nanna Koertz Madsen in the opening round Thursday at the Ford Championship.

Nelly Korda, returning to work after skipping the Asia swing, rallied with four birdies on the back nine and opened with a 67 in her bid to catch up to Hull, who has been as entertaining as ever.

Key to Hull's round at Whirlwind Golf Club was her driver, and she wasn't even sure what to expect. She tweaked the club early in the week and had a TaylorMade official work on it.

“And I really, really, really hit it well today,” Hull said. “I felt like that put me in a lot of good positions. I putted pretty well. I chipped pretty well. I hit it pretty well with my iron shots.”

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Billy Horschel made an 18-foot birdie putt down the slope and Patrick Cantlay clinched it with another clutch chip as the Atlanta Drive won the inaugural TGL title on Tuesday night by coming back for a 4-3 victory over New York.

Atlanta won both matches in the best-of-3 TGL finals that wrapped up the first season of the high-tech indoor league at the SoFi Center.

New York led the entire match and was up 3-2 on the 14th hole when Horschel delivered the biggest shot of the night. Atlanta threw a “hammer” challenge that New York accepted, making the penultimate hole worth two points. Rickie Fowler was in a bunker.

Fowler splashed out to 4 feet. Horschel faced a putt down a sharp ridge that broke two ways, and it turned back to the left and into the cup as Horschel raced off the green, threw his putter and his hat and screamed, “My (expletive) house!”
