Ozawa Shouichi was an actor, poet, singer, radio host, and a prominent researcher and expert on Japanese folk and performing arts. He was born in Tokyo. His acting debut was on a stage in 1951; after that he also appeared on television and in movies.

In 2004 he became the mayor or the open air-museum in Aichi Prefecture, Meiji Mura (Meiji Village), which showcases Meiji Era architecture. He also found recognition from the government who awarded him with the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 1994 and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette in 2001.
