💰🔋 By setting too low of an income cap, B.C. has made the middle-class person ineligible for a middle-class policy, which is exactly what new EV rebates are, says Clean Energy Canada's Trevor Melanson. Watch his full interview on CBC👇 #bcpoli #EV

About us
Clean Energy Canada is an initiative of the Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University, in Vancouver, British Columbia. We work to accelerate our nation’s transition to clean and renewable energy systems. We do so by telling the story of the global shift to clean and low-carbon energy sources and conducting original research, hosting dialogues, and inspiring and informing policy leadership. We envision a future in which our nation has one of the most advanced energy systems in the world, having significantly reduced its carbon emissions by the middle of this century. In our vision, Canada has become a leader in clean and renewable energy production, consumption, and innovation—benefiting citizens socially, environmentally and economically.

📣🎉 Clean Energy Canada is excited to announce that Rachel Doran will be taking on the role of President / Executive Director of Clean Energy Canada, as well as a fellow of Simon Fraser University’s Centre for Dialogue. Leading our policy work over the past three years, Rachel has led our strategic planning, deepened our relationships and thought leadership in Ontario, and built out our exceptional policy team and her reputation as a thought leader and spokesperson on the energy transition and clean growth. There is no one better placed to deliver on our exciting plans over the next three years to help get clean technologies like EVs and heat pumps into peoples’ homes, get Canadians actively participating in the energy transition, facilitate the shift towards decentralized energy systems and champion thought leadership on the clean economy. We thank Mark Zacharias for his three years as Executive Director and are grateful that he is remaining on with the university as a senior advisor to Clean Energy Canada and an SFU Fellow and Adjunct Professor in the School of Public Policy.

Canadian medium- and heavy-duty fleet owners are: · looking for ways to reduce fleet-related costs? · Seeking to gain a competitive edge by embracing sustainable practices? With evolving zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) policies, fluctuating fuel costs, and shifting market dynamics, we know that making decisions about fleet investments can be difficult. There are as many reasons to decarbonize a MHDV fleet as there are options, from cleaner fuels that will power an existing fleet, to cutting edge vehicle technologies. Join us for a discussion on solutions. This free webinar, hosted by the Canadian Transportation Council, will discuss the current transportation landscape in Canada and provide fleet operators with the tools to navigate cost savings, technology options, and real-world case studies. We’ll show you the Future Ready Fleets Initiative. Our newly released guide to adopting low- and zero-emissions options is the roadmap that fleet operators need to select and action the right option for their fleet: - A practical guide covering cost savings, technology options, and real-world fleet case studies. - A fleet conversion calculator to compare costs, fuel savings, and emissions reductions. 🇨🇦🔌🚗 “We are trying to build a domestic industry in Ontario on the premise that this is the future of auto. And this is one of the best ways that we can be supporting Ontario drivers as well as this burgeoning industry,” says Joanna Kyriazis. #onpoli #EV

🇨🇦🔌"We're really seeing... clear evidence that the people who are buying the EVs today are likely ones where they can go home and plug in"—but young people are keen on EVs, and requiring new buildings to be EV-ready now is four times cheaper than retrofitting later, says Clean Energy Canada's Rachel Doran. #bcpoli #cdnpoli #onpoli #qcpoli

🚨 NEW REPORT from Clean Energy Canada out today that argues Canada's generational housing buildout is a critical moment to ensure new condos include EV charging. 🏢 A third of Canadians live in apartment or condo buildings. In most major cities, that proportion is even higher (Toronto = 40%, Vancouver = 52%). Access to home charging is one of the top factors in determining whether someone will go electric. But many apartment dwellers don't have the option to charge at home. 🌱 Younger Canadians are particularly affected, as they're more likely to rent and live in an apartment. But younger Canadians are also the most inclined to buy an EV for their next vehicle, meaning we're missing out on a key group of next adopters if we don't solve this problem. 💰 Multiple studies show that installing EV charging in new builds is three to four times cheaper than upgrading an existing building. Let's do this right from the start. As governments consider ways to cost-effectively support Canada's EV industry and help Canadians save money on gas by getting behind the wheel of an EV, adding EV charging requirements to the national and provincial building codes should be a top priority. Quebec just released new draft regulations this month that would require all new condos and apartments to be 100% EV ready. It's the only province in the country that has done so. Would love to see Ontario, B.C. and Manitoba, among others, follow suit. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/g3vEwtah

🇨🇦 "If there’s ever been a time to bolster Canada’s national security through an energy project that makes us more prosperous, healthier and more resilient to an increasingly turbulent world, while reducing emissions and doing our part to address the climate crisis, this is it—and the project is clean power," writes Pembina Institute executive director Chris Severson-Baker. #cdnpoli
