Plans to increase the salary of MPs at Westminster by an inflation-busting 2.8% are “abhorrent” in the face of cuts to benefits, an MLA has said.

The move to increase members of Parliament’s wages to almost £94,000 was unveiled by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) which said it would reflect the “vital role” played by MPs.
