Full-time: Braunschweig 3-2 Paderborn
There are huge celebrations on Eintracht's side. Paderborn scored early in the second half to make it 2-1 and pushed for the decisive goal. After the hour mark, however, the visitors opted to protect their lead. Following a loss of possession, Tachie and Philippe punished their inactivity. Bell Bell turned the match around. Grimaldi missed the best chance to equalise when unmarked.

Grimaldi misses a big chance!
Incredible. After losing possession, Paderborn marche towards the Braunschweig goal in a three-against-two situation. Grimaldi is played through and misses with the inside of his foot from an excellent central position, putting it wide to the right of the goal.

Game turned on it's head!
Bell Bell scores up from the back. Kaufmann is played free down the right and has plenty of time to cross. The ball is cleared to the left edge of the penalty area. Bell Bell takes it first time. It's deflected, wrongfooting the goalkeeper and nestling in the corner.

Chance
After a headed lay-off, Bilbija gets a shot away from the right side of the penalty area but pulls it wide to the left towards the touchline. The angle was quite tight.

Momentum
The ever-important momentum has now swung in the home side's favour. Tachie's shot from the edge of the penalty area is blocked. Paderborn's dominance and control has largely disappeared.

Goal drought ended
It's Philippe's tenth goal of the season but only his first since November.

Game management mode
In the last five minutes, Paderborn are no longer pushing for the decisive goal. The visitors are going through a safety phase to avoid being caught on the counter-attack. The hosts have not been able to generate anything from this yet.

Grimaldi on fire
Adriano Grimaldi has set a new personal season record today with five shots on goal. The goal to make it 2-1 was already his sixth goal in the second half of the season. In total, he stands at eight goals, equalling Bilbija.
51'
Double chance
Zehnter reaches the second ball after a cross from the right, taking the ball from the left edge of the penalty area. Hoffmann manages to clear brilliantly for a corner. The corner is also dangerous; needing to be cleared off the line.

Paderborn lead again
The visitors are allowed to play four or five passes without being really pressured. Grimaldo finds himself on the end of the combination slotting it in skilfully.

Half-time: Braunschweig 1-1 Paderborn
The visitors started with a lot of possession from the beginning, having the first four attempts. Bilbija converted the fifth one to take the lead. Even after that, Paderborn remained the clearly better side. However, the final passes rarely found their target. And as so often happens: Braunschweig punished this and equalised with their first real chance shortly before half-time.

The Equaliser!
The sloppy passes from Paderborn come back to haunt them. Tachie reacts quickest after Krauße's long-range effort hits the crossbar and smashes the ball into the roof of the net from about 15 yards.
42'
The final pass is missing
Paderborn is working it through the home team with good combination play. However, the final pass has been played too sloppily repeatedly. The visitors are almost making too little out of their superiority in the first half here.

Contrasts
For the ninth time this season, Paderborn are ahead away from home. So far they have never lost (five wins, three draws). Braunschweig, on the other hand, have not yet won after falling behind this season. The last time they managed this was in January 2024 in Kiel (coming back to win 2-1 after trailing 1-0)

Eintracht trying hard
Marvin Rittmüller crosses from the byline, but the referee's whistle sounds because Polter had committed an offensive foul.

Bilbija is on a roll
Eight goals this season is a new record for Bilbija in the Bundesliga 2 before! In 2021/22, he scored seven times for Ingolstadt. Bilbija is now Paderborn's sole top scorer (with Grimaldi one behind on seven). It's also his third goal in the last five matches - before that, he had gone five months without scoring.

Paderborn take the lead!
Paderborn combine play for a long time unimpeded and put in multiple crosses. This time, it's Curda who crosses from the right after a good run. Grimaldi lays it off at the far post and Bilbija just pushes the ball over the line with his chest.
24'
Paderborn dominant
Paderborn are definitely on top here with four shots on goal for the visitors to the host's zero. They are also winning the clear majority of the duels so far.
21'
Good effort
Down the other end, Curda hits the side netting from the edge of the penalty area.
20'
Bicycle kick
Polter attempts to convert a cross from the right with a bicycle kick. However, he only makes contact with the ball using his shin. The goalkeeper is able to collect the ball safely.
18'
Another Grimaldi chance
After a free-kick is crossed in from in off the right flank and once again, Grimaldi gets a shot off in the middle. The striker holds his ground with his body, but doesn't connect properly with the ball. The ball trickles harmlessly towards the goal.
14'
Crossbar statistics
Grimaldi's header was Paderborn's 14th crossbar hit this season. Only HSV and Karlsruhe have had more bad luck. Grimaldi also hit the woodwork in the 0-0 draw in Regensburg.
12'
Eintracht try to play it out
Now the home team combines with some nice flat passes. Polter's through ball has too much on it, though, but the striker still receives applause from the crowd.
8'
First chance
Zehnter, the man with the most crosses in the second division, delivers a driven cross from the left byline into the middle. Grimaldi heads just grazes the top of the bar.

Different approach
Braunschweig, on the other hand, are trying to get in behind the relatively high defensive line of Paderborn. Kaufmann applies pressure on the right after a long ball. It's energetic, but hasn't led to anything yet.

Promotion candidates starting confidently
As expected, the visitors start strongly with the first spells of possession, controlling the proceedings. They're yet to threaten the Braunschweig goal yet, though.

Three in for hosts too
The hosts are also without two players as Johan Gomez and Fabio Di Michele Sanchez are not available, and Max Marie also begins on the bench. New to the team are Fabio Kaufmann, Robin Krauße and, in his first start in the second half of the season, Sanoussy Ba. It remains to be seen whether Ba, normally a right winger, will take over Di Michele Sanchez's position on the left flank.
Three changes for visitors
Lukas Kwasniok has to do without Sven Michel and Marvin Mehlem, and also puts Casper Terho on the bench. Instead, super sub Adriano Grimaldi, Ilyas Ansah and Laurin Curda, who returns from suspension, are brought into the team.
Paderborn starting XI
Riemann - Götze, Hoffmeier, Scheller, Curda - Obermair, Bilbija, Castaneda, Zehnter - Grimaldi, Ansah
Braunschweig starting XI
Hoffmann - Rittmüller, Jaeckel, Nikolaou, Ba - Kaufmann, Köhler, Krauße, Tempelmann - Tachie, Polter
Daniel Scherning on facing Paderborn
"We're facing an absolute top-class team tomorrow. Their team unity is impressive; they're uncomfortable to play against and good in every phase of the game. We know this, but in a home match on a Friday evening, such circumstances don't necessarily mean much. We believe we can win this match tomorrow."
Lukas Kwasniok on facing Braunschweig
"For Braunschweig, everything is at stake, and for us, everything is at stake. We need to keep the ball circulating without falling victim to counter-attacks. That's where Braunschweig's strength lies."
Scherning knows Paderborn inside out
Daniel Scherning is a native of Paderborn and played for his local club for nine years (1996-2005). He was also assistant manager during the wild times under Steffen Baumgart, when the East Westphalians marched from the third division to the Bundesliga. As a manager, Scherning has faced his former club three times (always away), remaining undefeated (one win and one draw with Braunschweig and a win with Bielefeld).
Clean sheet streak
In the previous 12 home matches against Paderborn across all competitions (seven wins, five draws), Braunschweig have conceded only three goals in total and kept eight clean sheets.
Will lightning strike twice?
Last season, Paderborn celebrated their first ever win at Braunschweig, winning 3-1 at Hamburger Straße in October 2023.
Open game expected
The reverse fixture ended 0-0 (Paderborn were reduced to 10 men when Marcel Hoffmeier was shown a red card in the closing stages). Overall the record after 17 encounters in Bundesliga 2 between these teams is balanced (five wins each and seven draws).
