A former Manchester City title winner is in hot water after reportedly clashing with one of the players he manages - and leaving him hospitalised.

The player, of Mexican giants Monterrey, needed 10 stitches after suffering a badly cut leg.

And there are now doubts over whether the damage will rule him out of Sunday's showdown with Guadalajara, according to Marca.

The player is reported to have kicked a glass door following an argument with his manager.

However, the manager has denied that there was a conflict.

The player in question is Sergio Canales, the former Spain international who previously played for Real Madrid

Canales, 34, is said to have been involved in a heated exchange with manager Martin Demichelis, who played for City between 2013 and 2016.

Demichelis explained to the media that he is willing to discuss his philosophy with his players, while he denied a conflict with Canales.

When leaving training, Demichelis told the press: 'Put whatever title you want. In every sport, in every locker room, there are always these exchanges of opinions.

'I'm not authoritarian; I like to listen and hear the player's opinion so I can draw the best conclusions.

'We know what's at stake this weekend, and we want to represent the club as it deserves. I have no doubt that whoever goes out to play this weekend will be a true warrior, and that's the most important thing.'

Demichelis was appointed as Monterrey boss in August last year, having previously been in charge of River Plate.

Monterrey, who are in ninth place in the table, have won just one of their last five games.

During his playing career he made 51 appearances for Argentina and featured prominently for Bayern Munich.
