Mason Greenwood could be set to make his return to England for the first time since leaving Manchester United with his new international team, Jamaica, this summer. In May, Jamaica will compete for the Unity Cup with Ghana, Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago in the UK in what is being billed as "The Best in the West – the Afro Classico Contest".

Greenwood formally switched his international allegiances to the Reggae Boyz despite earning one cap for England against Iceland in September 2020. "So my understanding, and I'd have to double-check my understanding, is he's asked to switch," Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham confirmed in March. "That's happened formally, so he wouldn't be able to [play for England in future] because you can only switch once."

Greenwood's switch to Jamaica, now managed by former England boss Steve McClaren, hasn't yet been made official.

However, if he is unveiled as one of the nation's newest representatives in the coming months, the 23-year-old could be available to return to home shores for the competition.

Marseille played a pre-season friendly against Sunderland in his home city of Bradford last summer, but he was excluded from the matchday squad.

The Unity Cup will feature two semi-finals before a final and a third-place play-off, running from Tuesday, May 27, to Saturday, May 31, all taking place in London.

On May 27, Jamaica will clash with Trinidad and Tobago to determine who gains the West Indies bragging rights in the first-ever TriniJam meeting on UK soil.

The next day, Nigeria's Super Eagles will meet the Black Stars of Ghana in a battle between the West African heavyweights.

May 31 will play host to a double-header, starting with the third-place play-off involving the two losing teams from the matches earlier in the week.

Later in the afternoon, the two victorious outfits will compete in the final to decide which will lift the 2025 Unity Cup.

Greenwood could be on the move at club level this summer, too, after reportedly generating interest across Europe with his exploits for Marseille.

The former United No. 11 joined from Old Trafford in a £27million deal last year and has plundered 16 goals and three assists in 29 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants.

United would profit from any transfer, having included a sell-on clause thought to be worth as much as 50 per cent of a future fee.

And his stock would only continue to rise if he makes an impactful start to life as a Jamaica international, potentially as early as in the Unity Cup.
