'We certainly feel like we're being pushed out': 2 west Toledo businesses have to relocate for new library project
TOLEDO, Ohio — Two longtime businesses in west Toledo will soon have to relocate to make way for a new public library development. The Toledo Lucas County Public Library plans to demolish the old Food Town building on West Alexis Road to make way for the new Washington Local Library. The library also plans to redevelop the surrounding plaza to build a new Friends of the Library book warehouse. As a result, Glass City CrossFit and Star Diner, both located in the affected parking lot, will need to move.

Man gets 10 years for hit-skip parking lot crash that killed woman, 86
A man who backed over an 86-year-old woman in a West Toledo parking lot and then fled received a 10-year prison sentence Wednesday from a Lucas County judge. Antonio D. Lockett, 45, of the 7200 block of Apache Trail in Springfield Township, said in Lucas County Common Pleas Court he was “so deeply sorry” for the Oct. 20 death of Gloria Ann Everett before explaining that he did not realize he had hit her even after he saw her fallen body. Judge Lindsay Navarre, meanwhile, said Ms. Everett was well known at the courthouse for sitting in the back rows of the galleries and praying for defendants during their sentencings. It was “deeply tragic,” the judge said, that Lockett was now being sentenced for Ms. Everett’s own death.

Toledo police searching for missing man who left medical facility
TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police are searching for a missing 49-year-old man who they say left a medical facility and has not been heard from since. Police say Toby Protsman, 49, left a medical facility in the 2100 block of North Cove Boulevard against medical advice. Police did not say when he left the facility.

Police release photo of robbery suspect
Toledo police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man wanted for the aggravated robbery of a Papa Johns restaurant at 3231 Dorr St. The man they’ve identified as the suspect is Douglas C. Smith, 55. He is described as a Black man who’s five feet, six inches tall, 159 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. According to police, the suspect entered Papa Johns at 10:55 p.m. on March 18 while wearing a Burger King uniform, hat, and a mask. He told a female employee he had a gun, did not want to hurt her, but wanted her to quietly empty the cash drawer. He then fled the building and left the scene as a front passenger in a greenish-colored car. Anyone with information about Mr. Griffin’s whereabouts is asked to call or text the Crime Stopper program at 419-255-1111. Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Three dogs died after a house fire in Toledo Wednesday morning, fire officials said, but two others survived. Toledo Fire and Rescue crews at the scene told 13 Action News a bystander was walking past a home in the 300 block of Langdon around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when they noticed fire in a front window and called it in.

West Toledo YMCA to host walk-through memorial for Kei’mani Latigue
The West Toledo YMCA will host a walk-through memorial for Kei’mani Latigue on Friday. In an email sent to members Wednesday afternoon, officials at the facility announced the Y, at 2110 Tremainsville Rd., would be closing at 2 p.m. Friday to “provide time and space for our community to come together in remembrance.” “The entire community is welcome to attend and pay their respects,” the email continued. The memorial will be from 4 to 7 p.m., according to the email.

Toledo Dept. of Public Utilities opens new bill payment kiosk
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The City of Toledo Department of Public Utilities is celebrating the opening of a brand-new payment kiosk. According to the city, the self-service kiosk provides customers with another way to pay their utility bills. There are currently two kiosks available for use. The newest one, which opened on April 10, is located at the corner of Madison Avenue and St. Clair Street and the other is located at the Scott Park Police Station.

UToledo: Records terminated for 'small number' of international students; one BGSU student also impacted
TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Toledo confirmed Thursday that the records of a "small number" of international students were terminated. When WTOL 11 asked the university if any students had had their visas revoked, a UToledo spokesperson established the record terminations, and said they occurred "earlier this month" in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
