Man pleads guilty for role in Gantt robberyAN PLEADS GUILTY FOR ROLE IN GANTT ROBBBERY

Lorenzo Armon Whatley, 24, of Troy, pled guilty this week for his part in what law enforcement has come to call the “Gantt 9 Robbery,” based on the number of people arrested for the crime. Whatley and eight others forced their way into Felix Jones’s home in Gantt in an attempt to rob him.

Pike Lib hires new volleyball coach Madison Evans
Recently, Pike Liberal Arts School announced the hiring of former college volleyball star Madison Evans as the school’s new head volleyball coach. Evans grew up in Crawfordville, Fla., and played high school volleyball at Wakulla High School, where she amassed 546 kills, 96 assists, 96 aces, 712 digs, and 77 blocks during her high school career. She went on to play college volleyball at Life University. At Life, she earned All-Conference honors as a freshman and was nominated for Newcomer of the Year, Freshman of the Year and was ranked in the Top 10 as a hitter in the NAIA. Evans and Life finished runner up in the Mid-South Conference Tournament and played in the NAIA National Tournament that season.

No. 18 Troy Baseball opens conference series with win over ULM
The No. 18-ranked Troy Trojans (27-11, 11-5) opened a Sun Belt Conference series with a 9-3 win over the ULM Ragin’ Cajuns (19-20, 5-11) at home on Thursday. Troy was led at the plate in the series opening win by Brooks Bryan, who went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, while Sean Darnell also tallied two hits, drove in one run and scored two runs. Jimmy Janicki also collected two hits and drove in a run. Jakob Wax scored three runs and Houston Markham drove in two runs.

Women’s Basketball Inks SEC Transfer Shakirah Edwards
TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball continues to add to its 2025-26 roster with its second transfer signee from Mississippi State, Shakirah Edwards. "Shakirah is a player we identified as a priority for us since early in her high school career," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "She is a creative scorer and can make difficult basketball plays look easy. I can't wait for our Trojan fans to watch her play in Trojan Arena."

Warhawks Lose Series to Trojans in Game Two Defeat
TROY, Ala. – Seven first-inning runs and a complete game by Troy pitcher Noah Edders culminated in an 11-1 run-rule defeat for the ULM baseball team on Friday night. Isaiah Walker started the top of the first inning with a double on the second pitch but was picked off in the next at-bat. The Warhawks (19-21, 5-12) came up empty in the frame after a Henry Gracia Jr. pop-out. The Trojans (28-11, 12-5) put two runners on with two Daniel Gonzalez walks. A double into left-center field scored both runners and gave Troy an early 2-0 lead.

Ode to Olivia, my beloved Easter chick
Way back when getting to go to the drive-in picture show was excitement enough but, the possibility of taking home an Easter baby chick was almost more than I could stand. On two nights, and two nights only, every little young’un that went to the drive picture showing in Troy would get a baby Easter chick to take home, to keep. That was more than I could stand. A baby chick of my my own. That was too good to be true!

Brundidge saddened by loss of former police chief
The death of Moses Davenport on April 15 saddened the Brundidge community, and people who remembered Davenport said he was a good, decent man. Brundidge Police Officer Kenneth Duncan never got to work with Davennport as a member of the Brundidge Police Department but did work with him through the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.

Exchange Club Vidalia Onion Sale underway
The Troy Exchange Club’s annual Vidalia Onion Sale is underway. This year, 10-pound bags of onions will be $15 and 25-pound bags are $30. Onions will be picked up in Georgia by the Exchange Club and will be available for pick up in Troy on May 14. Customers can pick up their onions across from Murphree Park.
