This has not aged well. And it's character development is a bit hard to swallow since it doesn't really make sense. Neither did:

the fertilizer robot built with hardware and tools prepared for "stealth assassin" missions, designed with humanoid features, mega strength and durability, sharp teeth and even a digestive system. Giving it the ability to make it's own fertilizer by eating humans. Did I mention bullet proof?
However, as I stated at the beginning, the movie is from a time when people thought the future would be filled with robots who looks like humanoid creatures, but with enhanced strength and agility. And that they would all be sentient beings to some extent, which is one reason this movie has not aged well.
But it's not all bad, especially the opening. Which set high expectations for the rest of the movie. To bad it doesn't deliver
