I work in HR... these are the strangest reasons I've had to fire employees

Working in human resources results in some wacky situations, but one corporate employee shared the strangest reasons she's had to fire people.

Sunny Lena, a Minnesota-based HR expert, shared the weird reasons she has had to let people go in a recent TikTok video.

She started off with a man who used to sleep on the job - literally.

'First guy was napping in his car from 10am till almost 1pm, every single day,' she told followers incredulously.

'He'd been doing this every single day,' she continued. 'He was a new hire and I don't know why he thought it was okay to do it.'

Sunny added she ended up firing him by knocking on his car door.

'We were trying to find him and he was AWOL,' she said in disbelief. 'He opened the door and he was so shocked, like it was the most shocking thing that's ever happened to him.'

Sunny said the man 'could not believe' he was getting fired for sleeping three hours every single day.

The second memorable firing was a man who worked in food services who was caught 'smearing his poop on the walls of the bathroom.'

'Then we weren't sure if he was washing his hands or not but he was working in food services [but] he got fired because he wouldn't stop,' she recalled.

The third person was a near-violent affair, with Sunny sharing she had to let a woman go for threatening to shoot her coworker.

'She actually bought a BB gun when she did this and she did shoot, just not at the coworker,' the HR expert said.

She added: 'Then she got and at HR and was like, "HR is evil because we can't take a joke" even though she bought an actual BB gun and threatened to shoot one of her coworkers, and yet somehow I'm the bad guy for letting her go.'

In a comment, Sunny explained these stories were from a 'small culmination of various industries over the past 15 years,' cheekily adding they aren't even the 'worst ones.'

Last year, New Jersey-based human resources worker Valerie Rodriguez shared her experience after spending 10 years in the field.

The expert opened up to Business Insider, breaking down the three things she avoids at all costs in professional settings.

She started up with instructing people not to overshare about your personal life to coworkers - not even your so-called workplace bestie - no matter how mundane the topic seems.

'Oversharing at work often does more harm than good because it allows people to make assumptions or decisions for you; even if it does come from a caring place, it's not a good idea,' she stated.

Second, ditch humility when it comes to work environments.

She has observed over the years that the most successful people will 'be direct' and 'more vocal' about what they've accomplished - whereas 'humble people' don't as much, and thereby have been more likely to get passed up for promotions and other opportunities for advancement.

Last but not least, Valerie insisted that there's never a reason to stay more than an hour or two at work functions.

Being in HR, she's generally required to stay until the end of any events - and has seen some less-than-savory interactions among employees.

As a rule of thumb, nothing good ever comes about from coworkers partying together until the early hours of the morning.
