Entrepreneur Charlene Flanagan always knew that whatever she did in life it would involve connection to others. As co-founder of beauty brand Ella and Jo, that connection is full on. But everyone needs to switch off, and Charlene does that in her stunning home in Sligo
My Favourite Room: Charlene Flanagan
The award-winning west of Ireland company Ella and Jo is all about women — its products are skincare lotions and potions for women. It was founded by two Sligo women Niamh Ryan and Charlene Flanagan, and the staff are mainly women. However, the Jo part of the name is actually a reference to a man — a very important one in Charlene’s life. “My business partner Niamh has a skin clinic called Bella, so she chose the Ella for short. My married name is Jones, so Jo is a nod to my lovely husband Micheal,” Charlene explains.
He helped her enormously, both emotionally and financially, on her journey to business success. Ella and Jo is only eight years old but it’s thriving — its skin products are all made in Ireland; apart from Charlene and Niamh, there is a staff of 15 and the range is on sale in Dunnes Stores, Kilkenny Design, Boots, Shaws and pharmacies nationwide.
