OPP, Ala. (WTVY) - One man is dead after his car left the road in Opp. Opp Police Chief Kevin Chance identified the victim as Michael J. Wilson. Wilson, 30, was driving along Perry Store Road after 8 a.m. Monday morning when police say he lost control of his vehicle, striking a tree, before stopping in a ditch.

The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles denied the parole petition recently from an inmate serving a life sentence for murder of an elderly woman in Crenshaw County. On March 13, the board voted to deny parole to Ernest Lee McCastle, 66. He is housed at the Fountain Correctional Center, 34 years and five months into a conviction handed down May 6, 1991. McCastle is serving a life sentence for the murder of Mae McGhee.

A number of high school baseball teams in the area wrapped up their regular season last week and four teams will continue on into the postseason. The Charles Henderson Trojans (19-13) split a Class 5A, Area 3 doubleheader with the Andalusia Bulldogs on April 11. Charles Henderson won the first game by a score of 3-1. Chase Vaznaian went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead CHHS at the plate. Cooper Johnson also went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs, while Clay Johnson pitched six innings and gave up just two hits and one earned run. Blake Lowery also gave up no earned runs and one hit in his one inning on the mound.

It was a picture-perfect weekend weather-wise across central and south Alabama. Sunshine was abundant, with a cloudless sky Saturday and Sunday.
