Midori is a young girl who sells flowers until her mother dies, leaving her an orphan. She is conned by a freak show manager into joining his troupe, but once there she sees a shocking variety of deformed people and is occasionally the victim of their depravity. Midori's situation changes, however, when a mysterious dwarf with a unique magical act joins the freak show. This dwarf is able to put himself through a bottleneck into a glass jar, but that is not the full extent of his powers. Midori falls in love with the dwarf, but his ambitions and jealousy will have further unpleasant consequences...

This two have not much in common at first glance, but there are some parallels.
Both deal artistically with twisted and serious themes.
Both are unique
Both reflect the personal creative vision of their creators.
Midori shows how a young girl deals with being harassed, abused and humiliated in the micro cosmos of a fairground freakshow.
Narutaru shows also different troubled kids with partial serious psychic injuries and how they deal with the world.
Sure, the later have a broader palette where society in general takes part of the fairground.

This is an old school Japanese horror anime. It stands out on his own style, you will not see this kind of bloody style in the new anime anymore. If you want some old school Japanese horror, this is for you.

Plenty of brutality, but superficial character development left me feeling apathetic. Recommended for anyone looking for something different from the standard fare.

This is demonic. Very disturbing and sick. Not for the fainthearted, a must for horror fans(don't consider yourself a horror fan just by liking Elfen Lied though, use your own risk!)
