Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Eastern Women's Basketball played another strong first quarter on Wednesday night, but offensive struggles in the final three frames proved costly in a 65-44 loss to the Susquehanna River Hawks. Eastern shot seven-of-16 in the first quarter and trailed by six at the break, but shot just 12-of 52 for the rest of the contest.

Jeriyah Johnson played her best game of the young season with 24 points, the second-highest output of her collegiate career. The Lancaster native shot 10-of-28 from the floor and knocked down four triples. Dominique Geiger finished with eight points and nine rebounds, while Tyerra Jarvis finished with a team-high 10 boards to go along with her five points.

For the second straight game, Eastern grabbed an early lead with baskets from Geiger and a pair from Johnson in the first two minutes. Damiyae Moyet knocked down a three to give the Eagles a 9-8 advantage with 5:55 to go in the frame, and buckets from Jarvis and Johnson later in the quarter put Eastern ahead 13-10 with 3:35 on the clock. The River Hawks, however, ended the quarter on a 9-2 run to grab a 21-15 advantage at the first quarter break.

Susquehanna never trailed the rest of the way, outscoring the Eagles 31-17 in the next two quarters. After hitting seven field goals in the first quarter, the Eagles knocked down just seven field in the second and third frames. The River Hawks grew their lead to as many as 26 points before settling on a 21-point win.Carly George recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds on six-of-10 shooting off the bench, while Julia Pinckert added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Eastern (0-3) travels to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday for a 1:00 pm.
